That ad will be brought up in court one day when a driver will claim Uber is an employer and they are an employee. Bound to happen - the question is when.

Agree - I've heard X drivers are being told they don't need an ABN.

You can't be a valid contractor in Australia without an ABN unless they're paying your tax and super..

The first time I sat down the with Ops manager at Uber Melbourne to discuss PP. I asked the same question, 'why are you telling people they don't need an ABN? You either need to be an employee, have an ABN or remit 48.5% of your income to the ATO'

Response: See, you don't need an ABN
So if they guarantee $30 per hour, that would mean you need to do about $80/h in fares
