Sometimes the message will say you have only so many rides, or so many minutes to achieve a significant milestone or blah, blah, blah! Classic approach when you want to bribe a child to do something, "Just one more piece of broccoli and you can have your pudding" or here is a piece of red colour on your APP just drive towards that! Uber bull dust aimed at keeping you behind the wheel just a little bit longer, that's all it is. A better incentive would be to return the rates to something half-decent!

I never read the prompts at log out after the first time, saying stay online to earn more blah blah!! Didn't know there was different ones at all!

I do an interesting statistic for all my trips which is the real Net versus Uber's Net. That statistic is now flat-lining at just a fraction under 70% so when Uber say $10 Net it is closer to $7
Is this because Uber lies about hours online, ie its lower than what it really is?

They do lie about hours on-line but bit harder to quantify and prove but because I use the same lie on both sides of the equation it doesn't factor. It's quite simple what I do and that is to compare the Uber "headline" Net compared to what I actually receive after GST etc. So for an Uber fare of $100 they will claim the Net is $80 ($75 for newbies) but in reality my actual Net is closer to $56

GJ the more I am reading on forum the more I'm picking up that for Melbourne you'd be getting around a 50% Profit to Driver from the Total Fare paid by pax. So 30% costs (of total fare) and 20% poober take. Only then there's gst or you factored that in?
I'm assuming 25 bucks per 30 kays like LX has mentioned?

you would have to assume a fair amount of good luck with breakdowns/fines/accidents etc I suppose

As Mark Twain popularised a long time ago, there are three kind of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics (we could add a fourth, Uber lies)! But in simple terms I get a gross fare from Uber and an Uber Fee. The difference is the Uber Net. But as you know there are very tangible outgoings, GST is the first one (1/11 of the Uber fare) then you have fuel and maintenance. For fuel I use the l/100km and the kms for the shift and the $/l at my last fill up to calculate fuel costs. I use 3.03c/km for maintenance which is a bit low but close enough for my car. Don't forget though you get a GST credit on your fuel and maintenance (1/11 of costs) so make sure that gets into the mix. I don't factor depreciation, insurance, leasing etc. because that is already dealt with and I would have those costs regardless. So at the end of every shift I have a Net earning which I compare with the Uber Net and I am about 30% less. The figure swings around a lot but over time it settles down. It is a dangerous thing to compare one driver's figures against another driver but if you do enough of your own statistics you will be surprised at what comes out

I intend to spin off a new thread to discuss this further because it is very important to keep a measure of what and how you are doing with respect to how and when you drive. There is another old saying that says if you don't have data to back up what you say then you're just another guy with an opinion

Yep comes down to how you slice/dice the numbers, what you include and what you don't include. ie rego/insurance/servicing. Some don't include these as they would have 'paid' them anyhow.

Uber always talks GROSS, so that $30/hr claim is before Ubers cut and taxes and running costs etc.

I get something in the $20-35/hr figure AFTER Ubers cut, but before GST/running costs. But then I'm driving day time as I require more money than the few hours a day that the surge chases can do. Plus also being 30-40mins away form the main surge areas, it doesn't pay to drive an hour to get to the surge and back, its either gone before I get there, or it averages out to not much better.

Some surge chases cough cough UXDriver lives in the surge area, so for them they can sit at home and play the waiting game.

I average about 30km/h from door to door on a 4-6 hour 'shift', sometimes more, sometimes less and yes after ubers cut something normally in the mid $20 hour range, depending on the day if its lower or higher end of that. The other day I was averaging a bit over $30/hr. But then I work door to door for my time, so include ALL travel time.

Some guys do some 'wonders' and rack in heaps of cash per hour. I'm still trying to work out their tricks ;)

I grossed 41 p/h last nite. Then of course u need to minus GST tax expenses.
Im thinking 10 per hour as UX seems to think we make.
Yeah Fri nights and weekends are different earning range again! Sat nights has been good for me normally. Well in the $30/hr as a min, depending on your luck and the surges you can do way better than that!

No one says no to a sure fare from Croydon/lillydale to the city :)

nice one GJ and LX and Joffie
yeah whether you add fixed vehicle costs is funny in a way I'm thinking, that they can be considered a variable depending on how much you drive

as to those tricks, there must be some real magic involved
I was driving when $2.80 flagfall and $1.31 per kay and 40cents per min if doing under 20km/hr
there were some relentless solid days and nights from time to time; with hail, quick rank, radio work, solid cover jobs, 'trunk radio' mates handballs
in other words most of the time the meter is on or about to be as heading to next job - yet the figures are closer to LXs better days but over say 12hrs
and on the normal days/nights, well... forget it - I would have LOVED the typical hourly rates getting thrown around here in Aussie gooberland
at least as a 'bailee' driver every dollar basically got you into so called 'profit' mode no matter how quiet

If you drive as you're primary source of income, then you should factor EVERYTHING in for owning/running the car.

If part time, you should factor in a cost per km, as servicing costs are increased, value of the car drops faster etc. Rego, insurance should be split too.

Yeah and a magician never reveals their tricks it seems.

LevelX after 2 crap surge short jobs got a 2.4 from Wonga Park to Ringwood Station. They decided then they wanted me to drive to Box Hill cause no trains. $55 later not complaining :D
Yeah nothing like rolling the dice.... On the weekends, its a some times you win, sometimes you don't type of thing.

But you ended up with a nice surge job. Wouldn't complain from Wonga Park to box hill. Handy having the trains out, but I haven't noticed a increase in jobs from it. I was down in boxhill the other night and thought I would hang out for a bit as a train just rocked up, had the filter on for past ringwood. Didn't get anyone of the train. Oh well, watched them queue up for the bus. So kept driving.

So many distracting offline messages yesterday blah. Like hey, I wanna go offline and take a breather! Eats trips were crazy yesterday night! Mainly because there aren't enough drivers and food is getting cold. Thanks guys :D Yesterday did $150 in 4.5h, not too shabby. So pings come, stack after stack after stack... And I have to go into the Misbehaving Driver Timeout Corner because I don't take 15 min ETA pings. If there is no stack I try to go offline and the lousy app says "You're close to making $XX, are you sure you want to go offline?" or "Drive 10 more minutes to make 1 hour!" Like really, I don't bother with what the app wants for me, I only care about what I want.
