I haven't been driving for long (about 30 trips in) and last night I had a terrible pax. They dropped the pin in the wrong location, I got there, called and found they were about a mile away. They had a 4.6 and I knew then I should have cancelled and "UberOn'd". I arrive and there are 10 people that want to ride. My maximum legal capacity is 7. They wanted to go about 30 miles to a casino. I told them I would adjust fare to XL and they promised a large tip (I got $40 not terrible).

7 pile in, and I head off. All the sudden beers appear out of nowhere and they start drinking (big no no in my state), then one of them lights up a cig. By then I was about done. They requested a stop at a gas station (which I am thinking great I can get rid of these beers), they all pile out, I proceed to throw the beers away. I get them to their destination without incident. They pile out and I get run off by the casino security who first told me one of the pax was showing signs of intoxication and we would need taken home. I told him I couldn't pick up in that state (neighboring state) and to call them a local cab. I head off.

This morning I see they rated me a 1. Ahh well, guess what, they are only 4 ubers in my town, I know them all, and they will never get a ride again. I have already put the word out.

Just wanted to vent, and ask anything I should have done different (besides just cancelling them).

Stopped the ride, at the side of the road as soon as that scumbag lit up. Cig burns ain't worth the couple of bucks.
Yeah, as soon as the beer came out or cigs lit up (whichever came first) that would've been them on the side of the road. Not liking smoking is one thing, but open containers in some states will get the driver a DUI, and in most states an enormous fine. Uber's not paying the ticket, the pax certainly aren't paying that ticket.

Should have 1 starred them anyway. But as I found out, 1 staring them does not guarantee that you won't get them again.

Welcome to UPN, sechax0r.

I see you've been registered here for about 3 weeks.
I hope that the reason you had that bad ride was because you just never read much here, in those 3 weeks.

Now you've learned something by personal experience, rather than by other's tales of misfortune.

Yes the stove is hot... many of us learn by touching. :(

I stopped the quote of your post, at a critical point. That was right where many saavy drivers would park, wait 5 minutes, cancel as a rider-no-show, and go back online a hefty $4 in the black.

Yeah the tip was nice, but you'll come to find those are the exception, not the rule.
Everything else you experienced from that ride would be a nonissue today, if you'd have cancelled.

Well you learned anyway, and got out without getting wounded. So well done.

Now, please read a lot here... dozens of (wise) drivers have posted hundreds, maybe thousands of helpful tips.

Where did you get them? Port Deposit, Havre de Grace or Elkton? You mentioned a neighbouring state. Was it Delaware where you dropped them?

I know that there is a casino in Maryland off the B-W Parkway, but I do not know of any others in Maryland. Since you listed "Maryland" as your location, and you mentioned a "neighbouring state", I am guessing that you took them to Delaware. You mentioned that there were all of four Uber drivers near you.

Be the above as it may, once the alcohol and tobacco comes out, the passengers go out. Depending on the situation, I might pull to the side of the road, give them the opportunity to leave the beer cans and throw out the cigarets, but they get told that it is their last warning. Any more alcohol or tobacco and 0-W-T they go. If necessary, I will summon the Police who will be glad to tell them to do something with the beer. Further, automatic one star, tip or no tip.
