Does Ryan Price care to share what his organizations stance is on this?
The sales tax is paid by the passenger at point of sale with all companies. However, the sales tax should still be abolished. It's absurd that an 8.88% sales tax is put on the Black Car industry when taxi's only pay a 50 cent surcharge.

We'll be organizing to abolish the sales tax late this year/early next year. Our stance is that when the tax is abolished, Uber, Lyft and Juno shouldn't just pocket the rest. With Uber, we got them to agree to pay into a benefits fund when the tax is abolished (so we can get healthcare, retirement fund, etc.) and we'd like to set up something similar with Juno Official , Lyft and all them - they just have to call us back. We may need to start organizing to push them. Also, we feel that the fare shouldn't just drop 8.88%. Either the fare should raise, or better yet, the companies should drop the fare, say, 7% and add a flat 15% gratuity charge on all fares.

But we'll see what comes of it in the next year. We all just have to come together on the issue.

Please clarify your statement, on one sentence you state that the passenger pays the sales tax, and then on the other that the driver pays it.
Whoop, you're right. That was a typo.

Here, clarified: The sales tax is paid by the passenger at point of sale with all companies. However, the sales tax should still be abolished. It's absurd that an 8.88% sales tax is put on the Black Car industry when taxi's only pay a 50 cent surcharge.

I have been a rider and have never seen sales tax added to my bill, nor is there any mention of sales tax on the rider app.
It's on the bottom of the receipt.

Just so that we are clear on what I'm saying Ryan Price

Current Tax collection

Uber min fare $8.00
Passenger pays $8.00

Driver gets $8.00-8.875%[tax]-2.44%[fund]-25%[uber)= $5.12

Tax collection everywhere except NYC rideshare

Uber min fare $8.00
Passenger pays $8.00+8.875[tax]= $8.70
Driver $8.00-2.44%[fund]-25%[uber)= $5.80
Have you ever bought $2 pizza? That $2 included the sales tax, it was just built into the price. Uber, and apparently Juno, are doing the same thing.
