The sales tax is paid by the passenger at point of sale with all companies. However, the sales tax should still be abolished. It's absurd that an 8.88% sales tax is put on the Black Car industry when taxi's only pay a 50 cent surcharge.DoesRyan Price care to share what his organizations stance is on this?
We'll be organizing to abolish the sales tax late this year/early next year. Our stance is that when the tax is abolished, Uber, Lyft and Juno shouldn't just pocket the rest. With Uber, we got them to agree to pay into a benefits fund when the tax is abolished (so we can get healthcare, retirement fund, etc.) and we'd like to set up something similar with Juno Official , Lyft and all them - they just have to call us back. We may need to start organizing to push them. Also, we feel that the fare shouldn't just drop 8.88%. Either the fare should raise, or better yet, the companies should drop the fare, say, 7% and add a flat 15% gratuity charge on all fares.
But we'll see what comes of it in the next year. We all just have to come together on the issue.
