I'm apprehensive about government hourly wage laws for gig apps. I'm skeptical they could result in drivers being forced to commit to limited shifts and the like. And while they may help drivers who accept every ping, I worry they make it harder for those who cherry pick and make decent money.

If you are able to make good money doing this
it probably means you are smarter than the
average ant and/or are in a good market.
Getting the gov involved probably isnt going to
help you and will socialize your income stream
If you can see cows or corn just find another job
If your city has a constantly gridlocked street system
Find something that you can do that doesnt involve creating more traffic.
I shouldnt have to take a pay cut because
someone else lives in a bad market...

I work 2 jobs and still can't make it

How many hours a week do you work and in what city. No offense this makes no sense whatsoever and has to be fake. This means your are the 1% of drivers, you work 7 days a week max hours a day, get massive bonuses, hit every single quest and surge on every day and have to be driving minimum 13 hours a day 7 days a week no days off 365 days a year just about. Maybe 1 or 2 days off a month. Sorry dude this seems like a troll job.

In NYC in 2022 there was a severe cab driver shortage. Drivers were earning 40+$/hr. With thkse numbers, that pic could very well be real.

There are 3 places left where you can make that money:
  1. Seattle
  2. NYC
  3. Chicago.
@25rides7daysaweek , I’ve seen several Chicago drivers with similar so I know it’s true. Based on what I’ve seen, I would bet about 30k of that alone was 1099NEC money, bonuses, quests, etc.etc.

Here's Seattle's new delivery law...
Seattle Enacts First-of-Its-Kind Ordinance to Provide Minimum Wage and Other Protections for App-Based Delivery Workers:
Under that law Seattle delivery drivers are guaranteed a minimum of $30 per engaged hour PLUS tips. That makes California's Prop 22 look pathetic in comparison.

Unfortunately just like NYC, the law does NOT require the companies to show the drivers the destinations in advance. I'm assuming this omission is for racial reasons, namely to prevent drivers from avoiding minority neighborhoods.

What they don't realize is that the vast majority of "destination discrimination" has nothing to do with race.

This law only covers Seattle. The rest of Washington State isn't covered.

NYC and Seattle YES, because both markets have guaranteed minimum pay rates.

I've got doubts about Chicago, despite the claims of a handful of Chicago drivers.

Unlike the other two markets Chicago drivers have NO regulatory protections.

If Chicago's so lucrative why is Uber supposedly offering all these incentives and bonuses? Why haven't the ants invaded the Chicago picnic lunch. With all that loot supposedly being made the place should be crawling with ants which in turn would allow Uber to shut off their incentives. But that's supposedly not happening.

This is why I'm doubtful. I suspect what's actually happening is that a few honey holes are feeding these drivers and/or they've found ways to game the system via hacks or some other method/s.

Chicago is a dangerous city to drive and many people try it there and learn quickly the danger that is involved.
I am from Joliet and know Chi-town never changes!

You can make about 80k in Austin if you hustle but in Houston, well hold a sign at a street corner and you will make more!

I don't know about the rest of the greater Chicago area.
I am in the NW burbs.
Used to be a goldmine up to this past Thanksgiving for me. I could make as much as I wanted as long as I wanted to keep working. Then the crickets moved in.

What is interesting is that they are back to offering $900 incentive for new signups.
They had gone down to $700, then $450, then $700 again, and now $900 once more.
