I would rather take 100 fake service dogs in my car than inconvenience one disabled person who truly needs that animal with them at all times. Unless the government comes up with a better system (and requiring documentation is a difficult thing for me to get behind--God forbid it gets left on the plane or such, and there would still be fake documents out there) then this is what we have. Everyone needs to just deal with it if they run a business.
If the dog makes a mess or damages the car, then go after the owner through Uber and small claims court if necessary. I know the latter is probably a losing proposition, but it's no different than if a drunk pax damages your car. If Uber paid enough to deal with those occasional incidents, we wouldn't get so upset about them. It's simply a risk taken in any business.
You people saying you will drive away if you so much as see a dog are scum. Period. You have no way of knowing if it's a service animal, although if it misbehaves, that's a good indication it's not. And you don't need to take it then anyway.
If you have life threatening allergies then do all you can to control them. I have severe asthma. It sucks. Luckily I'm not THAT allergic to dogs and my allergy shots have helped a lot. I honestly would not do this job if dogs were life threatening to me. Frankly, for me, smokers are a much bigger problem. My cancellation rate would deactivate me if I refused every smoker, unfortunately. Before allergy shots I would NOT be able to do this job. There are no shots for smoke (it's an irritant, not an allergen, but my allergies used to already have my lungs on alert so to speak) but the allergy shots have calmed everything down, thank goodness.
If your allergies can't be controlled, and you want to do this job then hopefully you can get documentation that shows YOU are disabled by it and need accommodation. That would be no animals in your car. It should go both ways. But if it's not a severe allergy deal with it. I have no sympathy.
