When I went to the uber assist event a while back, they said you are not allowed to ask any questions. If someone says it's a service dog, you have to take their word for it.

I have no problem taking a legit service dog. Pets are annoying.

How do you know if they are legit other than being blind?

What the ADA needs to do is get off their hineys and get laws passed, then start "licensing" "training" "authorizing" or whatever they need to do so that service dogs are easily identified.

Anyone then caught violating the rules by falsely claiming a service animal should be fined $10,000 and or jailed for minimum 3 months.

I'll do the inspections.

Don't worry you are not blowing my mind since I did work as a Taxi driver and I know exactly how it is. Do you know the huge diference between taxi and Uber,besides the city permits, stickers and all that? That you are using you PERSONAL vehicle, so if a dog rag my cab with odor, vomit, poop, hair etc I still get to put my daughter in my own personal vehicle and take her to school in a clean car while my taxi is getting clean up. I can't do that with Uber since I use the same vehicle, like Uber says " be your own boss, drive when it is convenient for you" So if I deside that one ride isn't convenient for me, well I am just following Uber's adverticement, the one that lead me to offer my company's services to Uber in the first place

I am just trying to make a point here since like I said in my last post I even have bought pampers for dogs and I keep then in my car, to be honest dogs don't bother me unless they are to big for my car, what it bothers me is that they want to make you do stuff like if you were an employee for them when they use every posible way to demonstrate that you are not, that is all.

Actually in this case Uber is (except for saying to not ask any questions) simply following the law. This is one case where they have no say in it. YOU are the one in violation if you don't follow the ADA.

In my experience, people who require assistance will tell you. They will typically not give you any reason to doubt them. The dog is well behaved because it's trained.

We don't work for Uber. We are contractors with cars. This would apply to Ubers driverless cars or Uber empoyees.

You realise your kid is more likely to catch something from the PEOPLE you drive around than a dog? If you're concerned about germs you must clean and sanitize after every shift anyway. I'd be worried about colds and flu, not dog bugs.

They want to be able to take their PETS wherever they like. They also turn people against legitimate service dogs when the PETS misbehave in public.

Don't do animals, service or not. Uber drivers have not nor are they currently under title 3 of the ada, your car is a POV, privately owned vehicle. It's not worth the hassle. If I even suspect a service animal, I just keep driving, cancel no charge. Dont even stop and ask. They have tax payer assisted transportation available in every major city for the handicap, they just don't want to use it, they want to trash out our cars instead. Want to sue me, go ahead, don't have anything, good luck with that. Had a "emo support dog" owner told me they like it when a uber refuses them, they complain to uber an d get $50 credit to their account. I did transport a small dog a last year, owner had it in a travel crate, held it on his lap. If I had know I would have said no anyway. My car, my rules. I like this new attitude fostered by our current administration, if you don't like the law, ignore it. What they going to do, like I said most of us here don't have anything worth suing over, and a large settlement against me, well so sad you won't collect. Oh I forgot uber might deactivate you if you don't take a service dog, really ? I really don't care.

I get that. Just feels like the dumbest lie to tell. I've never had a dog I could pass off as a service dog. Hell, I've never had a dog that would even drop the stupid ball.

This is just like the healthy people that get handicapped placards. Both should be regulated better with big fines and or jail time for violators.

Go to the 99 cent store and get 2 lint rollers for a dollar. They will pick up all of the fur in about a minute. You now have lint rollers to offer for the next 100 passengers.

Though i agree with you, every company enforces it's own policies on top of that. I'm just saying don't be surprised for deactivating people over this.

I went to the Drs last week two heavyset women were sitting together with two little barking chihuahuas, both had those little therapy vests on. Ladies told me they were therapy dogs for depression then they laughed. I thought yeah right. Dogs kept barking. I asked the front office receptionist if she could do anything I wasn't feeling well that's why I was at the Drs not the freaking vets. She said nothing she could do or she would get in trouble. She asked if I wanted to reschedule. I was so mad.

With that said, in most cases you may

Ask, "is the dog a service animal?"

Followed by, "what task is is trained to assist you with?"

If the answer isn't, "yes" followed by a reasonable answer then you may still decline the ride.

"provides emotional support or companionship" is not a specific task.

Keep in mind, service animals must still be housebroken and cannot show aggression towards other animals or people.
