When I went to the uber assist event a while back, they said you are not allowed to ask any questions. If someone says it's a service dog, you have to take their word for it.

I have no problem taking a legit service dog. Pets are annoying.

They're incorrect then. You can also asks the specific tasks the animal is trained to perform. It's on the ADA website.

If they can adequately answer that question, then you have to take their word for it.
Though i agree with you, every company enforces it's own policies on top of that. I'm just saying don't be surprised for deactivating people over this.

Makes sense, but I don't see why uber would have a policy stricter than what the ADA guidelines allow. I'd like to see that in writing. Maybe you heard incorrectly?

But then again, I wouldn't put anything past uber. Nothing they do would surprise me anymore. I don't think there is a written law they wouldn't break for their own good.
It's simply convenient for them to impose this type of thing on drivers, like the expectation of water, chargers, gum. "Uber even transports dogs!"

No, it was pretty clear. If someone tells you it's a service dog, they want you to take their word for it. I am just repeating what I heard from the speaker at the uber assist event. Dude was in a wheel chair, good patient guy. Some ignorant idiot who was standing at the back, no observational skills, I wanted to slap him. He yells for him to stand up in the rudest of tones, "stand up, i can't hear you".. The room cringed so hard. Again, this is at the uber assist event. The guy realized what he did, started sinking into the floor. Quite the 5 star experience.

What the ADA needs to do is get off their hineys and get laws passed, then start "licensing" "training" "authorizing" or whatever they need to do so that service dogs are easily identified.

Anyone then caught violating the rules by falsely claiming a service animal should be fined $10,000 and or jailed for minimum 3 months.
I'll do the inspections.

Fluffy white dog, drinking an iced frappuccino, on 4th and Broadway in Santa Monica..?

Result: fail.

How do you know if they are legit other than being blind?
In my experience, people who require assistance will tell you. They will typically not give you any reason to doubt them. The dog is well behaved because it's trained.

That
Vs.

Small hairy dog, barking and jumping all over the place. And some dumb lazy excuse why they NEED to be able to take the dog.

"C'mon, it's a small puppy!"
"I swear it doesn't shed "

"Please, you're the second uber driver to say no. I'm not going far. "
That's precisely the point, if you were going far, it would be worth my while.

Yes good reason for peeps to complain

I went to the Drs last week two heavyset women were sitting together with two little barking chihuahuas, both had those little therapy vests on. Ladies told me they were therapy dogs for depression then they laughed. I thought yeah right. Dogs kept barking. I asked the front office receptionist if she could do anything I wasn't feeling well that's why I was at the Drs not the freaking vets. She said nothing she could do or she would get in trouble. She asked if I wanted to reschedule. I was so mad.
Some people just suck, unfortunately. :/

Cres i have a little fluffy dog, while she wouldn't be drinking an iced frappuccino I could be. So according to your judgement I fail. Without so much as asking me two simple questions.
Not necessarily. I have never denied service to anyone who has required assistance entering my vehicle, service animal or not. If anything, my behavior has been quite the opposite. I have carried bags to the passenger's door, informed relatives they've arrived, taken apart walkers, etc. I have taken the time out of my day to care, even though it's not my job. I am not being compensated for that time. A few days ago, I walked this older woman to her doctor's appointment on the 5th floor.

I made a joke which was more about the type of rich people I've encountered in Beverly Hills and Santa Monica.
People who think that:
1. They can bring a frappuccino into my car. Nobody drinks a frappuccino in my car.
2. Figure they'll go for a walk to the beach with their pet. Think it's okay to call an uber for the 3 block trip home.

As I said, these have been my experiences on the westside.

Now, let me clarify something. I'm not rude or unpleasant with people who have pets. I simply state that I do not transport "pets". If they reply that the dog is a service animal, not a pet. I will gladly take them. I have done it before. But like I said, that is not the response I usually get. See up there^^
