As I arrived downtown for overnight rideshare fun, I've sometimes been called on to pick up early-exit concertgoers after Northerly Island concerts. Traffic control on McFetridge is fine--it's a dropoff loop.
I experienced the post Dave Matthews Band crowds on Fri & Sat. After concerts, cops block McFetridge off. Columbus Drive was okay for rideshare (cops want those people gone, they don't worry about bus stop pauses). However, to find a Columbus ping, you'd have to say NO THANKS to scores of east-of-LSD requests.
Uber, which works with hundreds of dynamics, ought to be able to prevent things such as "Lake Shore Drive Trail" pings where drivers picked up Lake Shake evacuees on LSD!
A world-class city should have traffic control for repeat events down pat. Traffic at 10 or 11 pm would not notibly suffer if a lane or two were dedicated to pickup for an hour or so. I suppose I should expect the same crapshoots after Foreigner, Ann Wilson, Barenaked Ladies, Ludacris, Boys II Men, etc.
But enough about Uber and Emmanuelville. How can I take advantage of this situation next time?
