I live downtown and have given a couple people that work at downtown bars/restaurants rides that don't tip and have had them wait on me as a customer later when I've been in their establishment. The one really ticked me off because I am a generous tipper and he had waited on me many times in the past when I've eaten lunch and he's been the bartender and he chatted with me on the ride. Other rider was a waitress at a small restaurant by my condo that I didn't know was in the service industry but waited on me a few weeks later (I remember her because she had an unusual name a good friend of mine has and she was sort of a PITA passenger anyway).

I ended up remember the female and didn't tip her. Same with the bartender, I didn't eat there that night but had a couple drinks and didn't tip and he looked shocked when I left without tipping him.

A couple of my friends that don't drive for Uber think I am out of line for not tipping. Just wondering how drivers in that situation handle it.

I understand drivers' bitterness when not being directly tipped. That being said, I did not expect any tips from my riders when I entered Uberverse today.

I do remember though, when logging into my rider's account on my PC, somewhere there is an option to add an automatic tip for every ride taken.

Could it be that some pax have set it up to tip some % every trip and they assume everything is fine?

Yeah there is an option to automatically put a tip on your ride. But is only for uberTaxi.

Got you. Back then I did not know there were other Uber services.

Btw, have you told him/her why you haven't tipped them after that experience? They might have no clue. Would make for a sweeter revenge if they learned the true reasons.

Welcome to the world of driving for Uber. You are in for a big shock though if you think you are getting tips as an UberX driver though, that is only for Uber taxi. Wait until you start driving putting up with passenger demands and you'll see why drivers complain about not getting tips.

The only problem with not tipping people who serve you food and drinks is they remember too. If you are ever served by them again, don't be surprised if you find a luggie in your food/drink.

Get mad or just move on and say "next". It's their bad karma not yours.

That is a concern if it is a food waiter I thought of. Bartender at least you can see making your drink. Something I wish I would have done was just left a small tip and apologized and said "sorry I'm not being a tightwad, I'm normally a very generous tipper but I driver for Uber and don't have a lot of extra cash to tip with tonight because I've had a bunch of tight a** riders tonight that stiffed me.

When I delivered pizza's in college there were a couple of those hair cutting places like First choice and great clips that would order pizza from us at night and they would never tip and that used to irritate me as well and a couple of the guys that delivered said they would stiff the stylist if it was someone they remember that stiffed them delivering pizza.

Had a server pax insist that I take a route through the city vs taking the freeway.

Would it be cheaper...? Yep approximately $1 on a pretty long ride. The difference is that it would take 15-20 minutes longer going their way. My region gets $0.15 a minute

No tip after telling me how he had such a great night in tips. Not only did I get stiffed but he took more money out of my pocket my wasting time to save himself a buck.

1 Starred him and seriously considered going in for dinner at his restaurant and stiffing him out of spite.

What you did seems reasonable to me, other than they may have thought tip is included in fare? Too late now, but you could have indirectly chatted them up on it and educated them if necessary. Some eateries places include tip in the final bill of the meal. On the other hand if you could determine they didn't tip b/c they were inconsiderate, then tell them why you aren't tipping. Keep in mind however waitstaff wages are usually less than $3 an hour and depend on tips. A slow night for them is the same as them paying to work. Anyway you burnt the bridges to those places.

noooo....just a small percentage may. the rider gets a receipt with fare breakdown, taxes and tolls and all. they don't see the tip amount. the rider plays dumb. an it always seems like its their first time riding. LOL.

I hear so often from groups of riders that "tipping is NOT necessary" I don't know where they got that from, but that's what people think.

Did you know that during any given shift where someone is paid below that standard minimum wage and they get that lower one assuming they get tips, if they don't get enough tips 2 equal what they would have gotten at standard minimum wage for that shift, the employer is supposed to make it up and make sure that they make at least the standard minimum wage. This of course varies according to the state that you're in. None of these places actually do it, but legally they are supposed to.

i Uber 20 minutes south of Atlanta where there is NEVER surge. I work smart, not hard and average 2-3 rides an hour which = $15-18 per hour. Tips are nice but this particular job is not considered a tip based job. Right or wrong its just not
I would have asked for ANY server but them instead of being petty about it.
