User Requirements and Conduct.
The Service is not available for use by persons under the age of 18. You may not authorize third parties to use your Account, and you may not allow persons under the age of 18 to receive transportation or logistics services from Third Party Providers unless they are accompanied by you. You may not assign or otherwise transfer your Account to any other person or entity.

How many drivers have picked up riders who are not account holders? If Uber is serious about rider fraud why dont they require photo I'd from riders?
Greed ?
I guess most riders are unaware of the terns and conditions

I've done several school drop offs. Parents will usually meet me and send off their kids. I didn't think too much of it at the time, but reading all these posts does sound scary. I tend to not think too much about the what ifs, the school kids I've dropped off have been great and one boy's mum even left a lovely 5 star comment.

Also had several underaged groups coming home from parties. Heck, in my first week of driving, first Saturday night I had a group which included a Maccas stop and cranking loud music all the way home! One of the most memorable rides to date. The girls were 16, but sure as hell didn't look it (jailbait)!!! ;)

After being alerted to the TCs I won't be accepting any minors as Uber makes it clear that they will hang us out to dry if things go pear shaped. How many driver cancels will Uber accept?

Its a hard one. With a saturation of drivers and less pings, its tempting to take as many as we can get. If we ask for their age, what's to stop them lying? If we ask for ID and they're over 18, they'll get annoyed and its a guaranteed 1 star. We just can't win. Cover our ass and follow the rules, or rack up the bad ratings.

Many pax are easily upset. One small thing and its an immediate 1 star.

How many driver cancels will Uber accept?
I think we should aim to keep it below 10%. However always insist that the pax cancel and not us. Telling them that if the driver cancels, its automatically $10, but if they cancel its free usually gets them to cancel pretty quickly!

I save my cancels for no shows, in all other cases I'll get them to do it and rather wait it out if they play hardball. Chances are they're more urgently needing a ride and will give in and cancel

If uber were serious about not picking up third parties you would be able to book a pick up from a location other than where you are. Had loads of pick ups whether it be family members, work colleagues or clients where the person who booked it is in another pet of the city.

In fact I once did a pick up in cbd, I called to make sure they were ready and waiting as it was heavy traffic. The guy said "they are my colleagues, they will be right there waiting" it ended up being 4 uber employees going to the Xmas party from head office. Even had a stop off to load car with 5 cases of beer.

I don't get it, what's the difference if someone accuses the driver of inappropriate conduct if the rider is 15 or 25 yrs old? Like does the court believe a minor automatically without proof?

Or is the issue that it is illegal to drive minors without a Working w Children Check? (Excuse my ignorance on this)

In any case, if you pick up a minor and behave impeccably what's the chances of them making up a story to frame you?

Honestly how can Uber police third party pick ups ?They can't. The way I see it if the third party is risking their rating not that makes much difference. If a pax gets kicked off Uber ? How hard is it to open a new account ? Had a couple of young ladies maybe under 18 . Using their parents account ? Dunno . They pinched my can of coke so their parents got a one star! Pissed off in principle not value

Pick them up all the time, never a problem.
FAIL

If pax is/are under 18 and unaccompanied you should not be taking them... If an accident happens you are on your own and uber won't help you and you can kiss everything you own goodbye because their parents will sue the cr** out of you. Some kids will accuse you of sexual assault for attention so enjoy spending the rest of your life on the child sex offenders register...
Still think it's a good idea or a moral dilemma to take underage pax?
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY NEVER CANCEL, MAKE THEM CANCEL (make sure it's been at least 5 minutes from when they requested) and get the cancelation fee... If they don't cancel wait the 5 minutes and collect rider no show!!!
THERE IS NO GREY AREA WHEN IT COMES TO THIS USSIE, ITS BLACK AND WHITE!

Total breach! Disagree with you on this one buddy. You are taking unnecessary risks unless it is an exceptional circumstance where you feel that you have an obligation to save a life... which can be considered in the court of law; I think you join the list of those desperate and unreasonable ants who make some of us look bad not only in the eyes of those kids but also their absent and irresponsible parents/guardians.

1. How do you determine who is and who isn't 18 years old?
2. I dont need Uber's help in an accident, I am fully insured
3. You don't think over 18's can accuse you of sexual assault?
4. How do you make them cancel a ride if the ride has been booked by a parent?

I fail to see why taxis can pick up under 18's and have done so for decades without a worry in the world yet Uber drivers are somehow incapable of doing likewise.

FAIL X4

1) Ask for ID
2) No insurance won't cover you 100%
3) Irrelevant Point
4) If they don't cancel collect no show after 5 minutes

We are not taxis in the eyes of the law (apart from ato but that doesn't come into play here!!!

1. In Australia it is not mandatory to carry ID. I bet you have never asked for ID.
2. If that's the case, it would apply to over 18's as well
4. It isn't a no-show
5. No where in the rideshare legislation does it mention we may not carry under 18's.

It's quite clear in the terms and conditions of Uber..

See quote below

User Requirements and Conduct.
The Service is not available for use by persons under the age of 18. You may not authorize third parties to use your Account, and you may not allow persons under the age of 18 to receive transportation or logistics services from Third Party Providers unless they are accompanied by you. You may not assign or otherwise transfer your Account to any other person or entity. You agree to comply with all applicable laws when using the Services, and you may only use the Services for lawful purposes (e.g., no transport of unlawful or hazardous materials). You will not, in your use of the Services, cause nuisance, annoyance, inconvenience, or property damage, whether to the Third Party Provider or any other party. In certain instances you may be asked to provide proof of identity to access or use the Services, and you agree that you may be denied access to or use of the Services if you refuse to provide proof of identity.

Those are the terms and conditions for riders, not drivers.
I want to see where either Uber's terms and conditions or NSW rideshare legislation prohibits drivers from carrying under 18's. Until then I will continue to carry people as I see fit.

Sorry but I am not going to be carrying out ID checks.

If you and others are that concerned about it, why not email Uber after carrying a person you suspect to be under 18.

Hey Fields: Please stop defending your position to the extreme & refrain from carrying minors if unaccompanied. Might I suggest you reread the "URC' ??? (implied by conduct...)
No one is suggesting that ID verification checks must be done; I have completed about 1500 trips so far & never have I ever done that. Moreover, I can tell 98% of the time who is minor & who is not & if in really doubt I will decline the fare in a polite & professional manner - no sweat !

Happy saturday buddy & stay away from the unaccompanied minors !
