Picked up a guy from Irvington on a $6 surge going to work at the airport. told me he is late to work because he kept trying to request poop and it wasn’t letting him and that regular Uber is way to expensive

so i explained the whole deal to him on why there wasn’t poop anymore and he didn’t seem happy. Well i got a 1 star and “service quality” report

had to be from him....total ride was $12.72

I predicted this. And why are you picking up in Irvington, $6 surge or not.

If you're gonna drive in ghettos, you need to accept that you will be randomly one starred for no reason from time to time, especially if you happen to be white.

This dude wanted to one star uber because he cant get poo and takes it out on you, most likely because he thought he was one starring uber, not you.

I've given plenty of rides in Newark, Irvington, and similar areas. My rating is 4.97. It doesn't drop when I drive there. All these drivers that complain about these cities giving them bad ratings are likely bad drivers and deserve the ding on their rating.

Can Pax give undeserved low ratings? Of course, but if you are constantly getting low ratings in these areas, then you are the common denominator in those situations and likely the reason for the ding.

Highly disagree with this, I have a 4.95 when I first started I didn't care where I picked up and I couldn't get higher than 4.80 because I would randomly get hit with 1s from bad areas. I once had someone file a report of a fake accident when all that happened was I went over a lovely speed bump in Irvington with no signs or paint on the pavement, saw it last second and was able to brake hard and apologized to rider and she didn't say anything. After that I stopped picking up in bad areas and like magic my rating went up. I didn't change my driving or anything I did. I don't really care about the rating either, I did it more so because I felt uncomfortable with some of the pickups.

Same here. The ones magically disappear when Newark, Irvington and East Orange are avoided.
Never got a 1 anywhere. I got a 4 once because I did not have spearmint gum. I figured it must be that ride so I came back and ran over their mailbox. I never drove in any really bad areas.

I have to agree and I'm not a bigot but 4400+ rides and I've done LOTS of market research. I'm always polite, friendly, and respectful but when I tend to do ghetto pickups my rating ALWAYS tanks. I'm still recovering from my last bit of research. Went from 4.95 to 4.90 in two weeks. Obviously I re-learned a lesson I already knew.

I don't know what to tell you guys. I have about 6,000 rides between the two platforms (mostly Uber) with a large portion of them in these same areas and never get below 4.96.

I guess you stay away after some initial bad ratings and it skews your stats. I consistently ride there and like most areas, the ratings overwhelmingly are stable with tiny dips or peaks here and there. I know most drivers won't agree with this, but I think a driver's rating is an accurate indicator of their ride share skills/ability.

I'm Puerto Rican, but I look very "white". My mother's side of the family particularly has a lot of Spaniard in it. Most people who guess at my ethnicity I think I'm Italian, Jewish, etc. Anything but Latino. In other words, people tend to identify me as white.
Gotcha... I was just asking because I heard people in here saying that their race automatically gets them a 1 Star when they pickup people of another race. That hasn't happened to me but to be fair I do stay away from the hood.
To give you an idea, I once picked up in the hood and guy was smelling like weed like there is no tomorrow.... I dropped the guy and I lowered all my windows to get rid of the smell and even use ozium... went to pick up 2 nd passenger and one of the first comments that passenger said was "there is a funny odor in your car" referring to the weed and i had to explain that it was from the previous passenger.... we laughed about it and that's it, that all in all went well but it could've have easily gone south and the 2nd passenger could've be under the impression that I was the one smoking weed and driving impaired and I could've been reported and kick out of platform for days until things got sorted out. I'm not putting myself in those scenarios anymore.
