I couldn't do it anymore. The combination of this virus, ignorant riders and no surge just got to me. I've been feeling agoraphobic and have had panic attacks. I'm always feeling like maybe I'm going to get sick. I'm now mildly hypochondriac. I talked to my brother and made sure he has all my directives in place in case something happens and I end up in the ICU.

It also didn't help that my uncle died a few days ago from coronavirus. He suddenly deteriorated and died quickly. We didn't even have time to process before they cremated him, since there's no time for the usual funeral arrangements. That scared the s*** out of me more than anything.

Once the VA governor said to shelter at home, that was it. No more rides!

I applied for the COVAD-19 emergency disaster small business loan. I'm also going to apply for unemployment once the VA system can take claims from ICs. Then I'm gonna ride this out. Uber is dead.

I have a job interview for online teaching as well. I don't want to be on unemployment any longer than I have to. And I'm studying to go into a new career. I'd like to try and get a tech job of some sort. I don't want to drive anymore. I just think until a vaccine is developed, it's not worth it.

Good luck out there. Everyone stay safe!

You know Koffee. I ****in love you man. You’re like a sister to me. You should just try to apply anywhere to help desk level 1 positions. Right now many people quit. I have a secure job. But you better believe I also apply everywhere too. Just in case. Get the training for CompTia ITIL cert for the free training.

.......................sorry to learn of your loss....................................

I, as well, have been running across more ignorant riders since this mess started. My ratings have suffered accordingly. I have given out more one-stars than usual.

Stay well, @kbrown and do not be a stranger. I still will welcome you here should you choose to appear.

There have been occasional minor surges; minor surges that actually give something to the driver, that is. There have been more minor surges where the customer is paying a multiplier but the driver gets only base rates. There have been no Personal Power Zones on Lyft.

I am getting far more downrates than usual, as well. , "Level/Quality of service" has been one of the more frequent. For the 1979 cab rates that Uber/Lyft pay, they get hauled from pickup to discharge point. If they want anything more, they can summon Uber Taxi or Uber Black. That is why Uber has those levels.

@kbrown I'm sorry you came to this grim reality. Please stay safe. I have been on self-imposed isolation with my wife since March 15th. I have zero income indefinitely also, but I'm not driving. We, all of us, all are doing what we can to survive. Food stocked at home for next 2-3 weeks when it will be hell on Earth with mass casualties in this area. The nursing home in Mount Airy is only 10 minutes away, that woke up a lot of people in the area.

Congrats, you will look back on this and be thrilled you quit.
Also yes, get a tech job! I left Uber and went into IT

Thanks, I am wearing a mask when I shop for groceries. I have a list in hand, get what I need, and get out. I treat the grocery store as if every shopper is infected. Sorry not sorry I might be infected also asymptomatic so I'm doing my part by staying at home and using a mask when I go out.

Like you, l bailed out long ago. I know it's hard, but l prefer any financial catastrophe to death by coronavirus. As long as there is life, there is hope. All hope is gone for the dead. JUST STAY HOME!! LIVE TO FIGHT ANOTHER DAY!!!

@kbrown I'm so sorry. Losing anyone to anything in general blows. But to be a number from this makes it more terrible since we are totally helpless, let alone able to hold some sort of a memorial and service. My last trip was March 5th. My wife got concerned, the media was starting to get antsy. I have my full time locked in fortunately, I hope that all of you make out ok, as much as we bust each others balls here, it sucks to see my friends on their a$$.

I have cut way back on driving just to keep exposure to a minimum. I had to take GF to a CVS to-day to pick up her medicine. She asked me about the masks that I had in the basement. I went downstairs to get them. DAMN!!!!!!! They are designated . Guess what who is wearing them from to-day.

Before some of you want to hand me un char de mèrde, for not giving them to health care providers, you will do well to keep in mind a few things:

1. I bought them two years back at Annie's Hardware when I re-painted my railings on the outside stairways; front and back, as well as the decorative roof supports on my front. I had to sand off some old paint. Paint dust is toxic as all getout. I wanted to avoid breathing it.

2. Those masks are used. You do not go giving used masks to health care providers, especially in this era of COVID-19. Yes, they were in the basement and odds are that they were not exposed, but, you do not know. More importantly,, they do not know.

3. I had no idea until I went and fetched them that they even were designated N-95. When I bought them, they looked like they were better than the cheapies that you usually see in automotive shops. Annie's had those, as well, but, I wanted to avoid cheapies, especially when it came to toxic paint dust. Two years past, "N-95" was meaningless to me.

I do hope that I will be allright if I spray the mask with Lysol® disinfectant spray every day when I get home.

They also might be expired. The governor of California had their masks in cold storage and sent expired ones to the hospital in a last ditch effort to provide something to the hospitals. Even then, the hospitals have put them to the side. So I wouldn't feel guilty having any. If you bought new ones, go ahead and donate those, though!

Thanks for the well-wishes. I'm trying to work on getting other things started up. I'm also doing training online for IT work. I'm perfectly happy to focus on getting some stimulus money and sitting at home. Besides that, one of my dogs has become very ill. He needs to be watched and tended to every day. So it's good that I'm at home anyway. I couldn't imagine working with my little guy laying at home suffering. :-(
