Next time just tell them your EZpass is prepaid and you don't have enough for the tolls.

1 hr 44 minutes out there, plus the time it took you to go to pickup location and wait for the passenger. Assuming it's a weekday, traffic would be nasty heading back, but if you know your way...you might make it back to Jersey City in 2-2.5 hours...so round trip was about 4-4.5 hours.
Gas: $5-8
Round trip tolls: $28.50 with NJ Ezpass, $23.58 with NY Ezpass

***FYI, you should attempt to contact uber to add the return toll of $8. It's not much but they may pay it since you have to pay to come back from there to get back to NJ
