See that stock market dropping. See news like this one:

The grocery store laying off? Which companies are next?

Here is the online link to applying online:

http://www.nyc.gov/html/tlc/html/industry/onlinepartb.shtml

Now if you apply and get a TLC Drivers license it doesnt mean you have to use it. Its going to take several weeks after completing all the steps for it to show up. You can then keep it on-hand as insurance should the bottom drop out of the economy. You can figure out what car to drive after you have the license in hand.

I know, the haters will now show up and tell us that Uber is bad. Driving sucks. There is no profit in it. Your friend might be teasing you "Are you now becoming a cab driver?" Absolutely, do not listen to them. The fact of the matter should the bottom fall out of the economy driving an Uber isnt so bad when compared to the prospect of living on unemployment or worse. Its even a great idea to drive a few nights or mornings in addition to your regular job just in case.

If the truth be known, if money wasnt an issue I wouldnt be on this board right now. I wouldnt be contemplating driving anyone around. However, for myself, money is an issue. Basically, I need it...

Are you allowed to get NYC taxi plates if you live in NJ? Or is the application just to get the license? Also if you live in NJ can you drive for uber with NYC taxi plates? Sorry for my ignorance, But besides driving part time as a nj uber partner i do not know what their terms are for taxi plates and the procedures.

In regards to the vehicle, you have to jump through a lot of hoops. Here is the checklist:
http://www.nyc.gov/html/tlc/downloads/pdf/vehicle_transaction_checklist.pdf

Before acting on any of this, you should contact Uber first and visit their office in NYC. Get all of your questions answered at the office.

In regards to what the DMV requires to get TLC plates you should contact them directly. Luckily, everyone has an office. The DMV has an office, the TLC has an office and Uber has an office.
