Hi there.

Intermittent driver for first and only area in Alabama. Do this as short term right now. Have learned some, but i am sure i am missing some of the best ideas from you seasoned ones on here.
Am looking forward to hearing your thoughts on all of this.

I'm in PCola, I know a lot of drivers from here head out there sometimes. Supposedly it's a decent market in terms of rides and such. I know there's some real bad parts of Mobile and I'm not familiar enough with the area to hit them up.

Hi there,

IT can be very good when events are happening. Obviously when alcohol is involved. Its a novelty right now, but people seem to have been overall pleased for Uber to be here. Always lots of questions about how we like Uber and whats its like to drive, etc. etc.

They sent us a map that listed the main areas that are hit by number of requests. Did they do that for you in Pcola?

So what do you think? It can be tough sitting there waiting, but you don't want to waste gas trolling..
Well, I like to drive for fun. I play an augmented reality game called Ingress, which involves visiting different places, claiming them for your team, and taking control of territory. So if I'm bored or if I'm angry and need something to destroy (i.e. other team's "portals"), I can't just sit... I'll drive somewhere with portals, which are all around. And that is a very expensive free game considering the gas and such... Now I can also be earning money while driving, and Ingressing when I get no pings from Uber.

I haven't figured out the activity in Mobile yet, so whenever I have free time I log into Uber... Once I got a ping from home in west Mobile, but more often I got lucky driving or waiting in midtown.

chamomiletea You will figure it out. I haven't found daytime driving to be worth it. More and more ppl are using it though. i have seen an uptick in usage, but beware Colin on Uber..they don't give you any help...they are useless with respect to assistance in most matters.

All I will say is Good Luck!

I am in Houston. But from north of Mobile on Hwy 43. Don't know if I would drive in Mobile. Maybe daytime.
where on 43...i may be near this..

I have a fulltime job, so it's hard to schedule driving at night in. I don't want to drive when I'm tired: that's a recipe for an accident.

I did notice the lack of help from Uber! They were only helpful with signing me up, LOL.

The funny thing about all my playing Ingress is I know the roads in and around Mobile very well, which helps with Ubering. And I've been up Hwy 43 too, up to Jackson. There are a couple of portals in Leroy.

Portals??? what do you mean.

and i know what you mean. don't like driving so late as it messes me up with sleep but i do it when its best time for multiple rides coming in. Have met some really neat ppl from outside and inside area. Having lived in so many places during my life, I find that part a real plus. I do think 20% is too high...after all considering, ppl just don't consider the taxes and maintenance on car and depreciation factor.

my best advice is to not put too much thought into this. uber says this is not a service. no tipping. so just take pax home safely and be a nice person.
