Here's the current policy:
Font Parallel Number Document Circle

Not sure if this is a new or old policy, but my guess is new...
Note the 3rd bullet point: "The driver's on track to arrive by the ETA" and the fact that ANY one of these conditions results in no cancel fee.

Here's the issue: once each day for the last 3 days during high tourist season (heavy traffic) I've had "rider cancelled" less than 1 minute past the ETA. Every time I made continuous progress - but slow due to no fault of my own - toward the rider. Then usually when just a couple minutes out, I get "rider canceled- this type of ride does not qualify for CXL fee".

Now I know from experience, riders generally don't CXL when you're almost there and still moving. It appears that the app is simply calculating the "late ETA" and then immediately offering the ride to the next nearest driver, stiffing me in the process.

Has this always been the policy? If so, why has it suddenly starting biting me 3 days running? Anyone with similar recent experience?

fyi... both fuber and lyft give fake trip requests to displace the concentration of drivers evenly in an given area, keep a driver in an area for a premium rider to take within a certain timeframe, and lastly to tell you to go home because it's slow. in your case, maybe the premium rider.

I don't believe they give fake requests... but I do believe they auto-switch drivers. The hypocrisy of this policy is that the ETA is nothing more than a computer generated (probably Google-based) average. But they make drivers wait 5 min for a no- show fee. Why don't they make pax wait 5 min before getting a free CXL.

Does anyone know if this policy has recently changed - allowing pax to get a free CXL if driver exceeds the ETA?

Anyone else suddenly having this issue?

That has always been the policy here. I remember fighting with them over this because I got a request while I was in the heart of an event venue that had just released. I spoke with the passenger and inform them has to my delay and why the delay. They eventually canceled as I was a couple blocks away and they refused to pay it because I fell outside of the 5 minute pick up window. Now I don't doubt they switch out drivers due to your progress among many other reasons. They of course don't own it and blame it on the passenger canceling

It's been that way a while. They also don't factor in traffic.

What would've been 12 minutes was closer to 18 because of rush hour. He canceled when I was two blocks away. I didn't get anything because of the ETA.

Lyft chat support doesn't like to be told to go **** themselves. 🤷‍♂️

Lyft only pays $2 & change for cancels anyhow. Unless there's a real good bonus, logging on Lyft's a waste of time. Even then, most of the time it's a waste.
I do Lyft Lux and Lyft Black only. Those fees are much higher.

Ya' know, I oughtta' look into that here, if they got it. 1or 2 of our limo guys got Uber Black accts. 1 says it's OK the other 1 not so OK .
It's honestly not bad.

If I was still in the D.C. area I would do it in a heartbeat.

On Lyft it's by car model and year. It's easy to see whether you qualify for what tier.

Click on vehicles and devices:

Then "your cars":

It automatically tells you what you qualify for:

I only do the circled ones. NYE I only did Lyft Black. It was worth it. HUGELY.

Check the list of cars on Lyft's website.

Here's the real kicker. Say that this passenger went through 4 driver switcheroos and you were the last one to accept and go to the destination. You could show up at the location and have them cancel and you still won't get the cancel fee, because of the ETA requirement they put in there--even though the factors that caused this default were from no fault of your own.

What's even worse? There's a high likelihood they charged the passenger a $6 cancelation fee anyway.

Even if you meet the requirements, how in the world is Lyft entitled to 68% of the cancel fee, giving you $2 and keeping $4 for themselves?

With Lyft it's been obviously clear it needs cult fanatics willing to sacrifice themselves to try to keep them in business.

Apple did the same thing but finally when Steve Jobs returned, went to Bill Gates at Microsoft and got seed money to rescue Apple and set it in a new direction.

Right now Lyft is running out of operating capital, it's taking whatever it can, from wherever it can, until it can find more capital to keep it going. Many suspect Lyft will file bankruptcy soon.

But they have more cash than debt and are making 40% from drivers.

The last cancel fee that Lyft stole from me was when I got a ping at the location where I was dropping the last pax off.
Their excuse? I didn’t make 2 minutes progress toward the customer because I was already there when I got the ping.

Anyone that believes Uber or Lyft are not profitable based on their reporting is simply gullible. There is NO way they can not be profitable when they are gorillas on our backs!
