I drive in Burlington so it's in the gta but only a city of around 200k people so not that big. I used to be able to make 400-700 a week for about 20-30 hours mostly driving at night for the bar crowds. I'm a student so it was flexible enough to fit my schedule and made me enough money to pay my bills. Yes it lowered the value of my car but honestly your car depreciated by 50% the moment you started the ignition so seeing your car as an investment is a terrible financial practice.

However; this week I've done about 14 hours so far and I've made 137.62. I went from getting about 60 trips in a week down to so far 14. Every time I open the rider app it says there is a car 2 mins away 100% all over the city there are no low coverage areas. Some places like our down time which is roughly a 2km area it's tiny had as many as 15 drivers there tonight (Friday). I've driven for uber for nearly a year and now I'm looking at not even making minimum wage from this over saturation.

I just don't know if I can continue which kinda sucks since I have a full 2 years left of school. Argh sorry I'm just *****ing to people who will get it I guess.
 
Same in my city. Infant, same in any city. Months ago i was the only uber in my area. Now I open the map any time day and night 5+ cars. This is in the suburbs. City every 2nd car is a uber, taxi, black ect!!
I just did an 8 hour shift today. I am going out again tonight. I will hopefully make more in 3-4 hours tonight than 8 hours during the day. So many drivers it only surges on Sat night.

What about the regulation in your city??

Last week I watched a TVO documentary "Earth - A New Wild - Ocean" and couldn't help thinking that driving for Uber is very much like fishing. There is really no barrier to driving Uber just like fishing, so the inevitable conclusion is that take home ($$$/fish) will continue to be much less. Pictures below are from same Florida dock, same season, just different years. So why would anyone bother to go fishing now?? Because new fishermen don't know what it was like in 1950. Same applies to Ubering. Average driver tenure is 4months, drivers don't know how it used to be. Sorry to say this, but it will never be like it used to be. Uber is like the charter boat captain, still making money from taking fishermen out, but it is the fishermen/drivers that are getting less and less.

I've always had an inkling that when there is high saturation of drivers, where response times are below 5 minutes there may be another protocol in the dispatch code drivers have to survive.

What if the high churn rate starts to become an issue with Uber? What if the Propeller Heads at HQ work out what your target is (through prior circumstances where you've stopped driving when there was a lot of work about)?

Then, take a "socialist" attitude in the dispatch of work in spreading the available jobs/$$$ around. Putting some drivers through pain of a disastrous week, only to reel them in again with a big day, just to keep them interested and hooked on sharing your car for dollars.

I enjoy driving folk around, done it for 30 years. But when it slowly gets harder, needing more hours to get your target, the fun goes, and how I relate to folk suffers.

From what I have read on the UP forum for LA. That's exactly what's happened. They have crazy incentives to get drivers on the road

A large multinational security guard company I used to work for rarely had any work for me to do. But when I go to the office, they're signing up everybody who comes into the office with a guard's license. They don't even bother to interview them. The result was that their best guards quit to work elsewhere and they lost allot of contracts because of the clueless riffraff they loved hiring.

I personally don't think Uber will be around in 5 years. But if they are, they'll be just another sleazy taxi dispatcher like all the rest.

Yes PB! It's all "churn & burn" here at Uber. They won't turn a profit until driverless cars are rolled out. UberX drivers and their cars are being used as canon-fodder by Uber to take control of taxi market (an industry that DID mistreat its monopoly market, did stick their heads in the sand, and still today do nothing to meet market expectations).

Lowering driver rates ENSURES nothing but the most ordinary folk and their cars pursue X driving full time. This will give many riders ALL the motivation they need to happily leave human-driven cars behind and hop into a CHEAPER UberRobot.

These guys at Uber HQ are the cleverest cookies in the biscuit tin!
