Hi Everyone. I used to live on the central coast and did delivery driving for Menulog via car. Parking was always never an issue. However, I've Since moved to Sydney and now live in Redfern. How difficult is it to deliver by car in the city? Are there certain times to work that are better for finding a park? Or are there certain areas a little bit out of the centre of the city, say out west or something where parking and traffic is better? Any advice would be very much appreciated:)

Parking can be easy or difficult as you make it. A lot of delivery drivers choose the easy option which makes it difficult for others. Park in no stopping, disabled spots, in and across driveways or just stop in the middle of road. Just ensure to use hazard light and a have quality earbuds to block horn noise and abuse.

Logged off now to collect my son from school and bring him football training and then family out to eat later.

Macbri never sleeps

Time now to answer your query 're Redfern.

I avoid Redfern unless very early morning.

The thing that kills u on eats in Sydney is traffic and parking.

I do not work evenings but traffic quieter after 7pm.

School hours from Kensington out to LaPerouse also very quiet.

I got 2 no stopping fines in 5 years and 1 speeding school zone ticket.

Be very careful if driving school zone times but fines are part of the terrain on eats.

I think motorbikes will maximise your income-Ent who is a regular poster on here talks about $45 ph which is reasonable in current environment.

I find delivering relaxing with music switched on, recommend 96.1 or 96.9 especially after 9am where more tunes and less host talk

Finally, there are a couple of posters on here who disparage eats basically saying u lose your dignity by delivering food .
.I can honestly say it is the best job I have ever had but work out if it suits u.

I got my eyes open when I got up at 2am Saturday and Sunday morning to meet the drunks in restaurants and getting into taxis/ubers.

I won't be doing that again and earliest will log on is 5am.

I did do 14 drops Saturday morning before running my son to his school game at 8am where they beat kings.

Will do the same this week when they play Newington.

The only caveat on above is a poster on here believes I am the worst eats driver in history among other things so take above with grain of salt.

Let us know how u get on.

The other thing is do not chase bonuses.

Last Sunday, I was 3 drops short to get $90 bonus but I was tired and said **** it.

Last week, eats was offering $1240 bonus for completing 290 drops.

It is now tiered correctly by Uber that higher bonus per drop as u 9ncrementally increase trips.

I accept a lot of double drops now even if there only paying $3 because reality with drop bonus can be $12.

Today , 27 drops in 9 hours and Wednesday's are suppose to be quietest.

U will get to know locations for ease of drop offs but there is a lot of public housing in Redfern.

It can be confronting but there is security in each tower but I avoid deliveries there now.

Residents are mainly elderly but I wouldn't fancy nighttime drops there.

I often go in into restaurants or Macas etc, and see delivery drivers waiting and waiting for orders, and think how the fark could they make decent coin, let alone 4k, with all that dead time.

Once saw a bunch of them wait over 30 minutes at Eat Greek at Beverly Hills.

P,

Eats drivers are not the smartest at times.

I got a bad restaurant rating today.

It was a double drop but restaurant had 1 drop in a few bags.

He then started ranting about being careful not to spill food.

I said no.problem and oromptly cancelled.

I had a great chuckle to myself and fully expected to be rated downwards on other drop.😅

Speed of pick up and drop is crucial and I average 3.5 per hour.

I set 5 minute timer on as soon as I arrive so that is my maximum drop time irrespective of finding parking.

Final comment on this but beware of your tax obligations .

The gst threshold is $75k so if u expect to exceed that, then u will have to register your business for gst and there is quarterly reporting/payments due

No rush, see how u go in next few months.

Also, Ato send me quarterly bill which I have to adjust accordingly if my revenue greater than envisaged.

I will be doing that this year the way things are going in eats.

Don't forget all the weight ur losing when ur out running around delivering food ten hours per day. 😁

Did it when they 1st year of UE it was buggy AF back then. System was messy and so time consuming for what I was making and was on lower commission too.

However when doing UE and driving combinations means no surge as uber pockets all the surge and u eat base all day found that out within the first week when everyone else getting 50 percent more because they were dedicated to delivering had no driver account linked.

Another thing I learnt in the 1st month is that ur last on the totem pole for eats as Uber priority goes to everyone else on eats that solely do eats and I was getting leftovers crap no 1 else wanted.

The final strike was riders will put in a different address because they are just out of range and I got to literally hunt for the rider a KM away or rider changing their mind and refusing to pick up the food that is ordered after I drove there already which now involved back then attempting to call the rider won't pick up and then calling support so they try calling them and the solution is to leave the food at the locked gate of the apartment complex whole process took forever for 7 bucks. Not to mention some location were closed but the owners says their open so orders will go through and you get there and you see a close sign so just wasted time and fuel.

I'm sure it all fixed now and things are much better than how it was 4 years ago.

App runs like clockwork mate-food is ready 80% of time unless u go to McDonald’s.

Uber pays u waiting time but bonus now on number of drops so I just cancel and move on.

The Indian guy telling me about the riches of X also said I shouldn’t cancel when I was waiting for McDonald’s order.

I thanked him for his advice and cancelled. :D

As u know, I have been doing eats for over 5 years now and app was a nightmare.

It is seamless and I think last time I contacted Uber was 6 months.

Can’t remember last time Uber contacted me.

I truely feels like an independent contractor (y)

I have lost 5kgs but still over 90.

I am non stop doing deliveries and have literally no time to eat.

All good and day flies by.

I have seen the bad days on eats mate and posted on it when I was getting $1 per hour.

Times have thankfully changed for the better in Sydney.

You need to get yourself and electric unicycle mate (y)
You got over 150km range on it when traveling at modest speed instead of top speed plus it can charge back up to full in like 4 hours with dual charger.

I started eats on the bicycle-(non electric)totally bored at home, not sleeping well at night, irritable at home and was great for a while.

I remember 1 delivery in pissing rain going over Anzac bridge, taking a wrong turn and customer waiting for me in driving rain.

I must have looked some sight. :D

Car is so much more comfortable and I am older now.

Radio on, air conditioning and can even take power nap if feel tired.

By the way, thanks for talking sense to me about gst threshold.

You were right and no point getting greedy and doubling my weeks for an extra net $600 per week.

I will push it to December because will help with mortgage application showing $2.5-$3k coming through every week.

I need to find hobby post December although buying property will occupy time.

However, if I was younger then why not? and I worked 70/80 hour weeks including travel in my 20s/30s and to be honest enjoyed it.

Going to log on now but maybe demand will be reduced with my central coast mate moving. down into my territory in Redfern.(y)

Mentor, get it sorted:

Seriously though, best of luck Ethan and wish u well.

Thanks mate,

We haven’t talked to anyone but banks generally look at last 3 years Ato returns for independent contractors and high weekly earnings from eats cannot hurt.

My highest taxable income was last year due to selling shares that I bought during height of Covid hysteria.

We also paid our mortgage off in 4 years which will add to our application.

I have also been with the same bank since coming to Australia so have a history with them.

The banks are concentrating now on low lvr ratio and Macquarie were offering 3.15% mortgage on live 60% before yesterday’s rate rise.

We will have a substantial deposit .

We could probably qualify with only my partners income but it would be tight at present 3 bedroom apartment prices in our area.

Anyway, it gives me a goal to work a bit harder on eats till December.

Had my worst experience on eats today.

Guy was drunk, squared up to me but I didn’t budge.

I think he was annoyed I couldn’t find his apartment and set 5 minute timer off.

Anyway, all good now and reported him to Uber.

How do u X drivers deal with nasty drunks.

U deserve every $ u get.
