Signed up for delivery with UE a couple of weeks back - didn’t know what to expect. This board and a few YouTube videos helped me get over my initial appreciation.

The first delivery request got canceled after I reached the restaurant. What a way to start. I calked the UE helpline and got $3.25. The second one was a Mac delivery, panicked a bit when I couldn’t locate the customer who was supposed to be waiting curbside near an apartment complex. Completed that. Total for the day $8.48.

Found out that Uber’s cut is 35% - while signing up I was under the impression that it would be 25%.

Have done a few more runs since then. Today picked up an order from a Hawaiian restaurant to be dropped off at a school. When I reached, the student messaged me to drop it off at the main office. As I was walking up a staff member intercepted me. When I explained whom it is for, she said that all food items should be dropped off at the Activities office instead of the main office. She also said she knew the student and would let her know. I dropped the packet off at the Activities office, send a message to the student and marked my delivery as complete.

Mistake. Later on Uber send me message and email saying that person never received the delivery, and reversed my $6.23 earnings. I should have probably called the student instead of just messaging, or waited for the student to arrive, but was too eager to get my next delivery.

Not sure what the repercussions are. Would appreciate some feedback on how to handle such situations.

Call and let them know the issue next time. If they don't pick up and the Uber timer runs out after 5 min, cancel the delivery and mark as could not find customer. Enjoy food.

Or if they insist to have to delivered somewhere you cannot go and they won't come get it, cancel and enjoy again.

Hit call customer when you're in range of arrival but then hit back to uber app. A notification will pop up and ask if they answered the phone. Confirm they didn't answer, even though you didn't call, to start the timer. Doing this also sends them a notification. You can also start the call and hang up immediately, blame it on service. If customer asks about notification but not receiving call, blame it on service. Or say "You know, it's weird you say that, 'cause I didn't call but people have been telling me that."

If delivery doesn't happen before timer is up you'll see them click for no-show notification.

I'm not advocating for screwing people out of their paid meals, I'm just advising you to start the timer immediately in the case people want to waste your time and what to say. People are a lot more cooperative and willing to meet you when the timer has already started.

I meant call and let the customer know the issue. Always contact customer first. If they don't pickup then the Uber timer will start and once the 5 min runs out you're golden.
call Uber and get your 6.25 back. You completed the delivery. They will pay you. If the first doesn't then the second person will. Be persistent with Uber. You drove for them and should be paid.

rtran, pcpackrat, aeiou_ - Thanks for the replies. After reading your suggestions, I replied back to an email from Uber explaning what happened. Lets see how Uber responds.

Oscarway if you don't get what you want the first time around, don't hesitate to try again and again. Support can be iffy at best.

If you are strictly doing UE, you will have a hard time making money. Don't drive more than 6-10 minutes for a pick up, find a sweet spot and stick to it. Don't drive around aimlessly wasting gas and time looking for a request.

Try and deliver when they offer boosts, it can take a week or two to receive boosts/quests. Without them, you are going to have a tough time.

THIS!! So many people think that moving gets them more pings. It does not! Find something to do in your car like reading or a movie. Park near the majority of restaurants. Don't park in their lots but in a grocery store nearby. No reason to pay so much money to the gas and tire lords.
