I am new to Uber and the other day i had some trips and I pressed navigation. i was already being directed and after awhile the direction arrows and metres left went away . And i got messed up. What does the navigation button do and why did the arrows go away?

Thanks

Bottom right of the app click your acc.
Next go to settings.
Check what navigation you want to use
Uber, Google maps, ways etc
When you start the ride hit the navigation bar and the one you chose will take over your ride screen.
I personally prefer Google.
You can experiment and see what works best for you.
When you get to the location of the pick up the nav goes back to uber automatically.

Like Uber Crack said, you can change your default navigation settings in the Uber app. I have mine set to Waze. On my phone (Android) this is how it works: After I hit accept/start trip, the Uber app will automatically show its own navigation to the riders location/destination. If I hit the navigation button it will open Waze in a new window and automatically enter the address shown in the Uber app into Waze. It should work the same if you set Google Maps as default. I don't know what the navigation button does if you set Uber nav as default.

Perhaps you have to first download waze and have it in your phone Idk. I'm just a Google girl :) if I didn't have it I wouldn't be able to uber. I don't get along with the uber nav. I tied waze a while ago but couldn't dig it though lots of people love it
AFAIK neither Google Maps or Waze will show up unless they're in the phone already.

Uber nav may be improved now, but it used to be clueless in my market. It wouldn't show turns in time sometimes (a lag). It would suggest turns onto one way streets that weren't possible. I couldn't see where I was going in advance like I can on Google.

We have major freeway interchanges here. Uber nav would say "take 50 west" then when I got on the interchange it would show "50 east". At that point it would be unsafe to suddenly change lanes. I tried to pan out on the uber nav and it wouldn't let me.

Twice I asked uber to refund riders due to navigation on freeway errors. It's all good and well to refund people's money but how do you refund their valuable time? (this was before up front pricing) One time support didn't refund my rider.

Finally, the font size and boldness on the top left where it runs down how many miles til the next turn - I can't see it clearly and I can on Google.

If you're using uber nav and not having any problems with it, by all means use it.

Yes it takes 15-45 seconds for Google maps to load when I first hit nav. I have got in the habit of hitting it asap once I've established I have the right rider(s). It wasn't that long before, only the past few months, not sure why.
If it takes a while I tell the riders, "I'm just waiting for the GPS to load, which way should we start going?" At pick up, the uber pick up page does show the initial direction which is great. Often that's all I need.

I think, experiment and see what works for you on your phone in your market with your eyesight. :)

If I understand the question correctly you must have moved the map. You can zoom or rotate the map while on a trip and then the navigate button appears to get you back to forward-facing-up. If you don't touch it for a few seconds it will automatically do it.

Today i used google maps and didnt get hardly any pings. have you noticed or heard anything like this?

another silly question. When getting a call its shows mins away then below its shows distance. Is that the distance to rider or the riders destination distance. I havent done enough trips to really look or tally. I may have ignored one today I shouldnt have

The map you use won't affect pings in any way. At least, I've never heard of such a thing (but I'm always on board with any paranoias haha :D) I very seriously doubt it though. Sometimes pings are fewer because of time of day, location, other drivers out there etc.

When getting a ping, it's the time and distance to pick up. We never get a clue of the destination until we hit start trip.
