I don't get many "stop" trips with stops added, so maybe I shouldn't have canceled? Should I have just marked "Ready to Go -> Drop Off > Confirm Drop Off" instead?

I picked up a passenger named Robbie and his friend from the Revere Hotel in Boston last night. Both had backpacks, looked disheveled and were very nervous when they got in.. you could tell they were total junkies needing a fix... had a bad feeling about it from the get-go.

The destination was in Dorchester right off 93 at Exit 15. However during the trip, the rider said, "Actually I'm gonna update the trip, so after we go to that address, take us back to the Revere Hotel." Instantly I thought I was driving into a drug deal but I give everyone a chance.

We get to the address, then the rider says, "If you don't mind waiting, we'll be right out. Our friend inside went to the hospital last night and we wanna make sure he's ok." ... I say OK, arrive at Stop 1 and they walk behind a house into a dark alley on East Cottage St.

Fast forward 25mins-- the rider still didn't return. I would NEVER wait more than 5-10mins per stop, but it was my last ride of the night anyway and bringing them back to the Revere Hotel would've been on my way home. At the 30min mark I cancel and speed off. No earnings, but I had a bad feeling about them returning at this point with probably drugs, guns, who knows..

It later hit me that this sonofabitch scammed me. He never had an intention of returning. He added a stop to kind of 'freeze' the trip, knowing I'd wait and wait and wait until I canceled, giving him a free ride.. Emailed Lyft for a partial payment for the first part of the trip. We'll see what happens.

411 trips and finally I got scammed. Feels good tbh, lesson learned.

Don’t know how it goes on Lyft but I would guess you hit ready to go, drop off, confirm to end ride and get the fare you drive.

Sketchy people, late at night, in Dot, I’d drive away and end trip if they don’t get right back out. You don’t want to be a sitting duck. They could be calling or sending someone to carjack or rob you. Safety first!

Haha yeah I got a bad feeling right before I canceled. Every car that passed me slowed down and then continued. Initially thought it was a carjacking setup and one of the passing cars was gonna block me in.

This trip reconfirms my belief that Dorchester should be a permanent surge zone of at least 150% PT, 24/7. Anything under 150% PT isn't worth it there.

Lyft got back to me and gave me $6.76 for the trip. They did suggest I click through and drop off instead of cancel.

Risk vs Reward. I have given a few dozen trips to/from Dorchester since starting and they are the ONLY trips that I *ever* have issues with. Either inconsiderate pax who take 10mins to load their stuff in your car only to go 0.5mi, to passengers arguing about needing a car seat for a 1-month old baby, or getting 1 star ratings for being nothing but polite and professional, to being setup like this. Anyone from this area knows Dorchester/Roxbury is primarily a dump and violent crime is rampant. And the majority of people there are either inconsiderate, scammers, criminals or African-American riders harrassing white drivers for "overcharging in the hood" 1-starring every white driver who comes their way for no reason.

In all fairness, there are parts of Dot and Roxbury that can be dangerous, especially late at night. Lots of people with questionable character. Punks driving unregistered dirt bikes and scooters raising hell, etc.

On the other hand, plenty of upstanding people, young and old, of all colors and backgrounds. A true melting pot.

I don’t feel comfortable in some areas late at night, but I will drop off, stop new requests and get the heck out. In his situation I would have made sure I had an escape route while waiting and would not have waited more than the agreed upon time. If it is going to take more than five minutes, they can order another ride.

Spend some more time in southie. You'll meet plenty of entitled, inconsiderate white people there....

Maybe Uber isn't for you. What does "they're from Dorchester of course" even mean?

Your not any better than them the way your talking.

Like the guy above said maybe you should look for a desk job around nerds.

Anybody who waits 25min for junkies to return is sketchy himself. Sounds like you wanted a quick fix too and when they didn't return you was disappointed.
