Last night (Friday), I set out on my first time driving for any rideshare company. I have signed up for Uber and Lyft (so far), and I decided to only use Lyft last night instead of running both apps simultaneously. I didn't want to make things too complicated on my first night out.
Things went relatively well. I only had one problem where the pax dropped the pin a couple blocks away from his actual location. I was going to wait the 5 minutes and cancel, but the pax called me about 1 minute after I arrived and told me where he was. TBH, it was a waste of my time because it was a Line ride, and they wasted an additional 5-10 minutes of my time because they dropped the pin in the wrong place. I went ahead and picked him up. What else could I do?
Based on how things went last night, I expect to earn my $500 sign-up incentive this weekend. Plus, it looks like I'll probably get the 10% power driver bonus too. So far, so good!
My only other question, besides what to do in the situation above, is...
On the short trips (which was about half of them), Google Maps kept taking me through zig-zag patterns through residential areas instead of major thoroughfares. I have Maps set to take the "fastest" route. It's hard to believe that zig-zagging through narrow streets with cars parked on both sides at 20MPH is faster. Any suggestions? I don't know Boston at all, so I have to rely on GPS.
