I'm moving to nyc in August for school. I'm coming from LA and I Uber here. I've heard thru the grapevine that new York ride-sharing drivers make more than la ride-sharing drivers. I drive X, work the surge and I'm able to pay my bills live with roommates dine on the best $1 tacos la has to offer, drink the champagne of beer and come out of the month a PENNYAIRE . My question, is it possible to work full-time+ for Uber/lyft and maintain a frugal student living in a studio, dineing on the best gourmet cup of noodles the dollar store has to offer lifestyle? I'm willing to compromise and do the live in my car, use the gym to shower and use the ever so pleasant Starbucks bathrooms for a few months before what I hear is called "winter" appears. Any advice would be appreciated, like what times surge and where it surges (general area). Trying to figure out what time I should schedule my classes.

Thats 1 lying ass grapevine...:D

Honestly bro your better off getting a min/wage job.

Give it a go. But be ready to invest heavily to the infmous TLC that has us all by the balls.

Once upon a time it was good. But now we all struggling.

Those who bought a car are just trying to finish paying off their cars to get out of this rachet biz. And those who rent pay 300 to 400 a week for a 3 year old camry and work 60 hours a week and still scrap by.

Ship has sailed and left all the drivers on a floating piece of wood. The titanic comes to mind.:(

Look up NYC cab suicides. Nuff said

Oh and it rarely surges. Might get 1.1X or 1.2X here and there.

But on the bright side if you work in a coffee shop you could make 18+ an hour.

This guy is funny. And full of dreams. He want to rent a studio in new York by ubering. Dude a studio in new York may cost around 1500$ if you're lucky. Don't be scared because you can make that in one week working for Uber around 30 hours a week. But you just need to find the studio. I'm sure my boys here will help you. My last advice to you is try to get here before summer time because that's where the good money is.

TLC license cost plus a couple month process period, drug test time, background check, expensive useless 24 hr class to get the license, parking situations, studio cost $1500-$1850, taxi insurance cost, car payments, tickets. Business dying and getting worse everyday, gas prices getting higher everyday, pax demanding $100 service for $10...Shall I continue?

All this is helpful, tlc license, tlc insurance WTF is that?! I thought the process to drive in NYC was like in LA. All you need is proof of insurance(not rideshare insurance, just insurance), watch a 5 minute video on how to pick up at the airport, and a simple visual inspection of your car and bamm you could drive to your hearts content. All this is superhelpful, it seems ubering isnt as easy to get into in nyc as it is in la. Sounds like I need to have a job outside of ubering.

Bro follow your dreams. To make real money in nyc all you have to do is buy a brand new Escalade. You’ll be banking so much cash, getting a degree would just be plain stupid. Don’t forget to move to Brooklyn just like everyone from California does when they move to nyc. I’ve heard Brownsville is a beautiful up coming trendy neighborhood.
