Get this guy yesterday from Hoboken into the city (42 & 7) the whole time is bragging about his office in ny the appt in Hoboken how much money he makes how cheap his rent his $3500 for 2 bedroom
So I asked him " how long have you being using uber ?"
He says since it started 5-6 years ago he used to live in San Francisco
So asked him " does uber include tips into the fare out there?" He says no but he used to tip all the time until one rider told him he doesn't have to"
What the hell is wrong with you guys telling people not to tip you , not only you just screwed yourself but you ****ed everyone else out there too
Accept the tip and thank the pax and if they don't offer ask for it in a nice way like " thank for using uber and my services hope everything went well and you had a pleasant ride /trip just a FYI tips are not included into the price but they are appreciated and customary once again thank you and have a wonderful day
Now that is how it's done you will see most people will hand you some cash because you just made them fell guilty
This one guy I drove gets to the end of the trip and tells me straight out he does not tip uber drivers anymore because uber told him not to
What a joke well you know what happen after that
I left came back to nj and then reopen the app to see that the whole ride was $28.63 wow $ 13.75 in tolls 2 hours in traffic what a joke so I give this duchebag a 1 star since he is number one after all with all of his money lol

I had this guy telling his buddies how he just sold his company for 85 million. THere's three of them packed into my small car and rich guy doesn't tip!

Even worse than that are the snooty wanna be rich people. Becasue there attitude is so phony, they are pretending to be wealthy when all they really are is in debt and thats why they never tip! At least the actual wealthy people are just cheap ****s and not pretentious blowhards wanting everyone to kiss there ass.

or like the country club golf course drop offs and NO TIP, or the 100 million dollar home pick ups NO TIP, I see how these people get their money, by being stingy ****s! they get 1-3* depending on mood and level of snobbishness detected.

Let's be honest. If wealthy passengers really wanted a nice solid ride where they are very comfortable, with water or whatever else, someone to open the door and they would tip, why not just order Black service or something else. UberX offers the cheapest of cheap, which reflects in the clientele that uses it as well. Some people seem to be rich, dress nicely, speak nicely, but are cheap. Let's face it they don't get moderately wealthy by spending every cent. There is a reason they call it frugal.

I have been tipped by teenagers going 5 miles and not tipped by business people going from Parsippany to JFK. It's all about the character/class of the pax. Some have it, most do not. I wish the passengers knew that Uber takes $1.00 plus 20% of what they themselves are charged, if they did they would be more likely to tip a little.

Tips for me come few and far between. Most people just want to get there and not have to worry about tipping. I have a 4.94 rating so I know customers are happy, but they just fail to show it by tipping. Anytime the subject comes up I do mention that Uber keeps that stupid $1 from the fare at 100%. If they shared with the driver then we wouldn't be that pissed, but when you see them taking that out of all these rides it is bothersome. So I usually ask the passengers if they prefer the un-safe ride so they can save the dollar. We all just laugh and realize some things are out of our control. It would be nice that after a certain number of rides that maybe they would eliminate the fee, but just like the airlines once the fees are there they are nearly impossible to remove.

I got a $5 tip from a young couple I picked up in NB train station in route to EB. Very nice people and conversation in route. on the way back, picked up a drunk @$$hole with girlfriend who was high like a kite want to get dropped on in NB'S World of Beer.. and no tip for door to door service like he didn't drink enough as is,, received a 2 star for slamming my doors.. on return leg, picked a young lady dropped her off 2 miles away, very nice, she called me the Uber Saint for me to drop her off in front of her residence in her driveway, fare was $7.05, she gave me a $10 bill, I told her, not necessary that large of tip, she said it was all worth it.. :)

Ive been now Ubering for 1 year around Jersey. Feel lucky when someone gives a cash tip. The vast majority do not tip at all. It just doesnt happen. No matter what you do or say. Whether you provide water, gum and mints or not...whether you place up a tip jar or a sign...you are not getting a tip. Post as much as you like about this topic over and over shaming us or whatever. At the end of the day, feel lucky if you have anything in your hand. Cash tips dont happen!

I told a guy I was too far to pick up what I suspected was a measly $6 fare. He insisted that I do it because it was his GF that he wanted brought home and he offered a $20 tip at drop off. OK I told him, no problem. She was lagging at the restaurant where I picked her up but I waited because of the promised tip. THe fare was about $15 and he gave me the $20 so I was happy. What I don't understand is why he didn't just request another uber, it's not like there aren't 10 more of them ready to pounce on my throw aways. Anyway that's a lesson why you should contact the pax and determine their destination or just tell them to cancel you for some BS reason when you don't want the ride. It usually works out for the better. Occasionally some world class drunken jerk will fire off a bunch of insults at my text but those are the people I'm trying to avoid anyway and text insults from asshole strangers don't hurt my feelings.

I run a clean car, full a/c and radio on or off, riders preference. about 95% of my customer don't tip, that keep on mentioning Uber does not allow tips, I tell them tht's Uber's way of thinking , you might as well not tip your bartender or waitress when you go out to eat as well. Uber Drivers are not living as lifestyles of rich and famous, if we were, why are we driving? Some people tip because they enjoy the ride, conversation and people are just plain nice, where the other 95% are just cheap ASSHOLES!

YES! This is why Im getting a Toyota Sienna van versus a Suburban. I know people would rather opt for the UberXL rather than the SUV. So Ill do UberX and UberXL in NYC. People are really cheap around here and its obnoxious. I can imagine a guy who is having trouble with cash and so he doesnt tip, but when you drop off people at nice houses, etc or pick them up from their nice house to go to the airport....how about a tip? Its so obnoxious and I can only imagine this in New Jersey.

Me personally? If someone picks me up at 4am in a nice clean car, gets me to the airport without drama, Im going to dip into my pocket and at least give the man a 10 or maybe even a 20. Someone comes to your house at 4am, the man at least deserves something. Just stepping out of the car and thats it...so obnoxious and totally Jersey!!!

I really cant imagine anyone taking black or going for the SUV. People are just that cheap...they will cram themselves onto the airport shuttle or get their buddy to pick them up and when it comes to treating themselves to a nice car...no way!! Not going to happen!

I get more tips from the average working people, but so far i still haven't gotten a tip from the big shots, Indians or Asians.
Same thing here gotten tips from the average Joe and no tips from the middle class or upper class lol the only ones I don't expect are some college students the ones that you can clearly see they there on scholarships and not because mommy & daddy put them there with their money lol
Now if I'm dropping you off at a bar in the city or Hoboken area you got money to spend ($12 drinks) you got money to tip lol

I have never had an issue with Indian or Asian passengers...but I do agree I get more tips from the average Joe than the big shot. I don't expect a tip from anyone, so it's great when it does happen.
I picked up a Indian guy in North Brunswick last night around 7pm and as soon as he got in the car, he tried to put his suitcase in my backseat... whoa... wait please.. I put it in the truck for him.. and then as i'm about to leave he need to make a quick stop at the bank on Finnigan's lane opposite way of airport way.., took about 10 min or so.. got in the car, and tells me we have to hurry I need to get him Newark airport Terminal 1 by 8pm, it's already 7:10 pm.. he's a pushy little bugger.. I told him, it's not my fault your only giving yourself 1 hour, Uber does not pay for my traffic violations nor negligence for accident. my job is to ensure you get to the airport safely. he kept on mumbling he's not going to make his flight, sir, this one hour gap is not enough to catch the flight.. he said he's done it before.. so I drop him off @ The airport @ 7:45pm.. made a stupid comment, would have made it faster if you had speed @ 85 mph.. I mentioned to him, sir, I also travel for work, I allow myself 3 hours prior to flight time. He may have been pissed but I gave him 1 star being an asshole who did not give me a tip either for help him with his bags..

It is definitely not just a Jersey thing. My theory is people are not used to under-paying and haven't caught on with the proper response. I also think people don't know if their next request will be surge and they are saving up for that. I also think people assume if drivers are not compensated well, they would not let strangers in their cars.

It's not frugality when they are talking about the $200 bar tab they just paid on top of the $500 dinner. And then don't tip on a $7 fare.
