Can someone explain to a newbie here how the minimum fare works. I have had a lot of fares today for 2.40, 3.30, 3.99, 3.43. I was under the impression that we got a minimum $5 minus the $1 uber takes. Any info would be appreciated

The minimum fare is $4.00. Subtract the $1.00 safe rider fee and you are at $3.00. Finally take off Ubers cut of 20% ($.60) and that leaves a whopping total paid to the driver of $2.40.

Hey but some of the drivers here think that is just great. Especially driving 15 minutes to go pick up that min fare.

For UberX the minimum fare is $4 for the passenger which comes to $2.40 for the driver:
$4 - $1 SRF= $3, then
$3 - $.60 (20%) = $2.40

On cancelations, there is no SRF, so the $5 charge to the passenger means $4 for the driver:
$5 - $1 (20%) = $4

Minimum fare can be explained easily, your losing money on all of them. Now if Uber gave a shit about drivers they would have a tip option where if a pax gave 1$ you would not lose money on those trips.
But they dont give a shit.
