I have a dash cam with audio, but it only has a few hours of footage. I'd like to store massively more than this for potential protection against pax nonsense. It sounds like android's background video recorder set to low resolution could record interior vid and audio best (iphone has no such app), because its bitrate is terribly low. If I buy an android phone only for this, what's probably the bare minimum to have the app function usable? I know a pre-pay android can be had for almost nothing, and I have no intention of actually activating it.

You e better off buying a Dual Dash Cam with micro SD Storage.
If you got the Funds, these Cards now come with a incredible 256 GB of Storage.

You can probably store a couple of weeks of Footage (if properly formatted) on it.
Then, if you want to keep it longer, copy it on to a external Drive using a PC.

No Android phone will handle that much Data. They use MicroSD as well.
And finally, think about the Battery and the monthly cost.

I see some of the new Cams will automatically upload into the cloud, that would be even better yet.
