I've been seeing more of these guys on the road lately. So, I was going east from Windsor, I come to a construction site on the road, so the highway narrows to one lane. But sometimes a semi truck who appoints himself as the merging lane police officer would block anyone from using the lane that's ending until it's actually ending. So they would start driving in the middle of two lanes to purposely block people from going there even thought there are like 500-600 meters remaining.

Is it legal to intentionally block people from using it until its end? Is it reportable?

I passed a semi truck that was doing it and I had to sped up because he swerved into me while I was literally still passing him -- it seems he was really upset that I used the lane until its end. I don't know why people care so much about what others do that don't affect them.

Then the other day, heavy duty truck was doing the same thing (one of those F-350 type). It was obvious, they're blocking people on purpose because he was moving back to the ending lane when he notices I was about to pass him from it.

It's like a customer blocking other customers from entering a store because it's closing in 1 hour. Whatever sickness this behaviour is, it doesn't make sense.

A quick diagram of how he was blocking two lanes. My point of view is from the car at the very top.

Yeah I’ve noticed that too. People not aware of zipper strategy… each car should merge one after the other, like a zipper. Keeps everything smooth, and both lanes are used until they’re not.

‘You should report that mf. To both police, and the company he works for.

I considered doing that. But I didn't have my dashcam setup. I only did it yesterday after the two incidents. How the semi swerved into was so totally fire-able if had gotten that on dashcam. But I didn't and I don't want to waste time with a heresay report.

Yeah I've always been taught to use lanes until they end and let other merge in if you're already in the other lane.

Agreed. What people perceive as fair, and what actually WORKS are often two different things.

These semis deserve a hero’s parade.

This is what it looked like. If self appointed enforcers are your type of hero then I guess we have a different take on the word "hero".

The problem is nobody knows, uses, or properly executes this “zipper” strategy.

What people do instead, is pop out of heavy traffic, gun it down the lane that they know is ending (because their time is of course more valuable than everyone else’s) and then force their way back into the lane by about 5-6 cars from where they started and jam back in , causing yet another cascade of starting, stopping and congestion.

I see it daily on the EB401 at the 412, where the fourth lane takes you NB412 and the third goes straight or to NB412. Dicks of all varieties gun it through the fourth lane and then at the very end try merging back into the 401 lanes to avoid the backup. They are not avoiding but contributing to the problem and maybe are now going over double solids to force themselves back in. It’s a complete asshat move that truckers have to deal with every day. Also look up break checking some time on YouTube. Those are the best when a 4 wheeler tries it on a semi…

There is a rule of thumb to use . If a lane is closed get in that lane as you will move to the front faster. As others move over. There, my secret is out, if you don't like it block me then. As turn about is fair play.
