Daimler is calling its service an "automated shuttle," but it's not referring to some blobby, slow-moving van. It's going to start out using a fleet of S-Class luxury sedans and B-Class hatchbacks, with long-term plans for vehicles designed for autonomous driving, like the F 015 "Luxury in Motion" concept it showed off a few years back.

The extremely complex challenges of self-driving, and the expense of research and development, has led to a host of partnerships between automakers, suppliers and others.

Bosch and Daimler, with its passenger car brand Mercedes-Benz, first joined forces in a self-driving alliance in April 2017, with teams from both companies working together in Stuttgart and Silicon Valley.

I don't know about the rest of you, but you really going to let a SDC merge into traffic ? The same SDC's that are taking your fares ? The same SDC's that are going to be a big flop.

The secret my friends, is not in making Self Driving Cars, but in developing the software/hardware necessary, then the Insurance lobby will get DOT to mandate this technology being installed in every car/truck sold. It's a built in co driver for every car, you won't be able to run into the back of that car at the light if you try. Just like seat belts and air bags, mandated safety equipment, the owners of the patent for the technology will be getting royalties for every car and truck sold.
