I think I am seeing this correctly but it appears Uber and Lyft drivers will be covered under this bill:

Democrats said the package would help replace the salary of furloughed workers for four months, rather than the three months first proposed. Furloughed workers would get whatever amount a state usually provides for unemployment, plus a $600 per week add-on, with gig workers like Uber drivers covered for the first time.

Does this mean we are getting one time payment of $1,200 plus $600 a week for 4 months?
It does appear that way but I could be wrong. I think most people will get $1200 but in order to get the $600 per week there is probably some eligibility requirements to get that. Also, I don't know how that would get paid out, if NJ would pay that out through unemployment or if the federal government would pay it out. I remember back in 2008 they extended unemployment up to 3 years so maybe they will do it that way. Obviously this will help a lot of people out there but there will be the "few" that take advantage of it and milk the system for years to come.

if u have to file for unemployment to get that $600 plus what ever the state gives (nj has a max of $677) ....chances are that Uber and Lyft will deactivate you. Can't be collecting and still driving

Have to wait for someone to read the whole bill and then shorten it for us lol

Yeah I'm sure the bill is complicated lol but it's designed to provide relief due to the fact everyone has to stay home. I suspect things won't be back to normal for several months bc Trump says he thinks maybe by Easter but then he later said it could be longer. And here in NJ and NYC where the epicenter is, Murph said he will extend it based on facts and science which means everyone's staying home until at least April-May.

At the same time I don't really trust the government when it comes to payments and money so we'll see if this package is actually designed to help the worker or line the pockets of CEOs and large companies. I myself have a lot of money saved up so I'll be OK for the time being but I hope this serves as a lesson for a lot of people out there to save as much money as you can! Fingers crossed and praying.

Someone has to pay for all this largess. The government has just one source of income: taxes & fees. The legislators should stop all foreign aid and redirect those funds to domestic aid. The House needs to take out all the add-ons like airline emissions and licensing ammo sales. This bill is a major step toward the ruination of this county. Nancy Pelosi has never experienced a crisis from which she could not profit.

The devil will be in the details. From what I understand, the bill is more than 1000 pages. I also understand that the payout may be tiered, so that the less money you made, the less payout you'll get. We'll see. But I'm not holding my breath, and am just happy to know there's light at the end of the tunnel (albeit small right now). In the meantime, at age 67 I'm just staying off the road. No sense in exposing myself to anything that may be out there. Things will get better. Hang in there.

As yet, I have not seen a DEFINITIVE description of how and if classic unemployment benefits will be made available to U/L drivers and what the qualifying criteria and documentation might be. I'm skeptical as always. I'll believe it when I get my first direct deposit unemployment check. Do you really think that the TLC-Toyota-renting hordes will fess up to driving while on their new unemployment benefits? Or they'll certainly declare a Fatwa if they're disqualified by da man.

No worries. The Fed can just print more...and that's exactly what they plan to do...til eternity.

Current unemployment benifits are for 26 weeks, the 600 a week for 4 months is an extension when the initial benifits expire. Back in 2012 I receiver 77 weeks until the feds stopped funding extensions.

Plus,
Q. Can a claimant work part time and still collect unemployment benefits?
A. Yes, a claimant may be eligible for partial unemployment benefits while working part time due to lack of work. However, the worker's weekly benefit amount will be reduced dollar-for-dollar for all earnings in excess of 20% of the worker's full weekly benefit rate.

This is not how this stimulus works. Shumer calls it "Unemployment on steroids". States have a max limit of how much unemployment you can collect no matter how much money you made. So if you made $1000 a week and then needed to go on unemployment, the max in NJ is $713 a week. Unemployment is calculated at 60% of your salary. So if you made $1000 a week you would get $600 in unemployment under normal circumstances. This bill will make up the difference so instead of receiving $600, you would get another $400 to still get your full salary for 4 months. How the gig workers are going to get paid and how much is still anyone's guess. It hasn't been explained. Do you file for regular NJ unemployment? Do they look at your 2018 taxes? Do they just send you $600? It hasn't been laid out at all.
