What's the amount they will charge?
The commercial rate, or what Uber reimburses you......

So everyone who "lost" income when Lyft lowered their tolls reimbursement is now going to "lose" it on Uber since it's now a wash.

Oh, and the replenishment amounts are going to go crazy because our EZPass bill is going to go up.

the question is, how will this work?

is this uber/lyft paying a congestion tax or are we getting commercial transponders?
The TNCs are going to provide data to MassDot and they are going to up charge us if they think we didnt pay enough through our EZpass account.

It says we dont need to upgrade to commercial, only have an EZPass account.

That should work out well ?

I might just upgrade anyway since I see them screwing this up royally. I'm only on toll roads in MA when I'm doing rideshare anyway.

Why? Aren’t tolls just a passthrough from the rider to the tolling authority? It’s part of what I am paid and matches what I pay as a toll. It’s a net zero, whatever it is. Luber will collect whatever and pass it through me to

Seriously? The rider or the TNCs dont pay the "tolling authority", we do.

The TNCs charge the rider and reimburse us.

Will enforce commercial toll rates and up charge after the fact.
Rideshare companies to provide data for cross reference by state.
If app is on, you pay the commercial rate
Could someone please, please explain this in layman's terms. For example if I have a pickup from Logan going to Somerville what are the tolls that I will be charged now under this new policy and what is the reimbursement through Uber and Lyft.

If we will be charged commercial rates for tolls, does that mean we will be classified as commercial vehicles? Would hurt when it comes to insurance, but help when it comes to parking downtown. Doing something like this in isolation without referencing overall commercial status is another example of the terrible communications drivers receive whenever something changes. As a former communications professional, this kind of thing drives me crazy. At least have an FAQ where these questions can be posted/answered.

No commercial plates means no parking in commercial zones. What EZPASS you have doesn't change that your registration.

That said, long term, I wouldn't be surprised if we see requirements for a seperate plate/licensing etc....this is MA after all.

The wild, wild west days of rideshare are ending.

Yes, you are right about the plates. I'm not anxious to have to pay for commercial registration, and hope that we continue to be non-commercial, but it does not seem fair to charge commercial toll rates on technically passenger/non-commercial vehicles.
