Employment Development Department of California,

Please accept this dated email as further proof of Lyft's labor practices, where they pay drivers less than minimum-wage -- a practice made possible by employment misclassification.

Currently, I live in my vehicle and can not afford to feed myself. The attached earnings are a prime example of this: I'm earning $7.41 an hour in Los Angeles, and this amount does not include taxes or expenses.

As a result of Lyft's actions, I've begun cancelling calls that place me in an even deeper state of loss, at which time Lyft chooses to retaliate against me by threatening to deactivate my Driver account.

Once terminated from their platform, I would ask that their private records be made available to any applicable proceedings, which would illustrate a deliberate attempt on their part to repeatedly send me calls that cause "said financial hardship" (in an attempt to get me to drop off of their platform).

To date, I have reached out to Lyft via email several times in an attempt to mediate the issue through arbitration, but have been ignored.

Thank you.

Hey there,

Thank you for reaching us and let us know about your inquiry. I'm more than glad to help you out

I totally understand your concern about your weekly earnings, I would feel the same as you do.

Regarding your concern about your weekly earnings and promotions, you have to keep in mind that just as Terms and Conditions state, promotions are subject to change. Also, you have to remember that Lyft fees and commissions must be removed of the total earnings.

However, you're more than welcome to take advantage of many other bonuses that we have, like:

  • Power Driver Bonus
  • Power Zones
  • Average hourly guarantee
I hope this information will find you well.
Thank you for being part of the Lyft community!

Employment Development Department of California,

Please note that Lyft's Power Driver Bonus, Power Zones, and Average hourly guarantees are being used as a way to schedule drivers without the appearance of giving them a weekly schedule. In essence, they're paying drivers such little wages that they have no choice but to slave away and try for these bonuses in order to reach for earnings that are at least "minimum-wage," but Lyft makes no assurances that any of these incentives are even attainable.

For example: they can tell you to take 40 calls in a particular area -- during a fixed time -- in order to receive a Bonus, but if 40 calls are not available for dispatch, then the driver ends up being manipulated for their time, vehicle and hard work -- and a bonus is not given. The driver, then, falls back down to earnings that are below minimum-wage.

You'll also notice that their former reply did not acknowledge the fact that I am earning less than minimum-wage, despite providing documented proof.

Again, they have shown no effort to arbitrate this issue and continue to show a reckless disregard for the wellbeing of their drivers -- financially or otherwise.

Did anyone else read "I totally understand your concern about your weekly earnings, I would feel the same as you do." in Monica's response and hear "and that's why I have an hourly position here in a support role" in their head?

First things first, you are an embarrassment to the avatar of Trump. Please change to something more fitting like a female sex organ. Second it is apparent you know how to compose a letter so you are educated, STOP fighting and crying about Lyft; get a real job. The good times of both Lyft and FUBER have past and are not coming back. If you were a pre 2014 driver just say it was a good ride. Lyft got authorized by the state today to test drive DRIVERLESS CARS. Remember GM owns a good chunk of Lyft and have been chasing the driverless technology like everyone else. Edd is not going to come in and shut down Lyft so stop driving yourself crazy trying to hit that square peg into the round hole.

People amaze me. Slave labor for all. If you don't like earning less than minimum-wage, go work for another less than minimum-wage job.

There's a reason it's called "a minimum-wage."

And if it was so easy to get "a real job," no one would be driving for these payday loan apps. Their "real job" would be enough to pay for things like overpriced groceries, skyrocketing housing costs, and things like war -- where 59% of your income tax goes to.

The response is canned, it's a bot . . .
His email address is flagged already, it's sad that he can't communicate an issue to the company. They are done with him.

I ready cannot understand how or why you don't make money? A day has not went by that I don't make no less than $25 per hour, in an 8 hour day roughly $25 for fuel and $45 in commission to company. That is still $130.00 plus tips that is more than $6.00 per hour that you claim.

You probably drive weekends only. I "made" something like $58 yesterday because it was Thursday. God forbid I miss Fri or Sat ! Most of my money comes from those two days.

Me and Trump Economics don't agree on 90% of the things but one thing we agree on is that Lyft and Uber are wage thieves and slave drivers.
Someone asked- how comes you don't get a real job. Well, in my case I have two children , I need very flexible schedule which Uber and Lyft both provides. Also, Lyft provides me with a rental car that I use 110% for both Lyft and my own needs.
There is no need to do what they do and in fact they lose money by doing what they are doing. We all can be happy and make money but they chose to have this stupid business model where rides are cheap, investors fund 40% of each ride and full-time drivers are screwed. No need for it.

Mmmm, and I'll also figure out a way to go blind, that way I'm not seeing an increase in homeless people on every other corner -- affluent neighborhood or not.

WE. HAVE. DIFFERENT. ALGORITHMS.

After nearly 6,000 rides, I've collected over $50,000 dollars in rides from them -- commission free (PDB at 20%). Then, in 2017, they came to collect. Now every call I get affords me the luxury of living in my car. The bonuses aren't attainable for me because they don't give me enough rides to make "said bonus."

I drive 7 days a week. When you live in your car, there isn't much else to do. Can we agree on that.

At least you don't have ghetto neighbors that drive you nuts. I pay close to $2000 in rent and got sh1tty neighbors that act like straight from the hood.
I actually just moved to a nice area , just those people...man I wish they moved out
Everywhere in LA is like a grand just for a room to rent, and many of them are subpar neighborhoods at best, and I can't even afford those. Different strokes.

A canned response won't help them in legal proceedings, nor public disclosure. They have a legal obligation to respond in accordance with the terms and conditions that they've laid out. By ignoring multiple requests for arbitration, they'll be on the losing end of an arguement.

LA/Orange County. Pay me $500.00 and I will try to teach you how to make money. This week 35 hours gross earnings $877.00 tips are down $45.00 this week compared to last week. Lack of quality customers.

I am usually out five or six days but limited hours in the morning, no chasing drunks around unless you forgot one. I truly try to stay within 35 to 40 hours per week. It has been a long time since I was an ANT, forget about those 100+ ride weeks.

Don't need a tutorial. I make nearly double that a week in SF area. That's before adding in any Flex income. But this has dipped some because of the over saturation of Uber/Lyft drivers in this market. But now that Enterprise has discontinued its sub prime leasing/rental program with Uber nationwide, this weekly income could improve. But again, this is based on how Machiavellian Uber has customized its dispatch algorithm to be for each driver.

Anyways, that's why I asked what region/city you're driving in. That's probably a decent wage if OC is anything like the parking lot that LA is on a weekday basis.

Any plan B when the driverless cars come on line? Window for this party the way it is 5 years and counting down. City of SFO is trying to put a cap on the amount of cars coming into the city? FUBER and Lyft set out to destroy the taxi business to become a nationwide/worldwide taxi company. The drivers are still slaves just different owners.

Yes. I'm an engineering grad student and back at my full time student job at school. LyfUber is just a convenient and relatively lucrative side gig.

Window for this party the way it is 5 years and counting down. City of SFO is trying to put a cap on the amount of cars coming into the city?

Yes I believe so. I had a lawyer pax who told me city SF was investigating Lyft/Uber and trying to get them to release their proprietary rideshare data. The city apparently has growing concerns about the adverse impact LyfUber's presence has created in the city (i.e. daily road maintenance/construction, noise, and traffic volume which affect the quality life for local SF residents).

This attorney also indicated the estimate increase to city traffic volume (from non local/external Lyft/Uber drivers who work in the city aka sleep in their cars) may have increased city traffic volume by about 130%. A believable statistic based on my experience, where it seems every 6th to 7th car in SF has a LyfUber sticker on it. lol

FUBER and Lyft set out to destroy the taxi business to become a nationwide/worldwide taxi company. The drivers are still slaves just different owners.

Yes and yes. Just like Amazon's goal is to annhilate Fed Ex/UPS/DHL with Flex and it's independent driver ICs. The only difference here is we're paid peasants who voluntarily live under the delusion we're free men aka Yeomen.:p
