Maybe I'm not using the app right, or don't understand..

But when I'm in downtown DC I'm not able to see the surge areas in the Lyft app. I only see the sporadic pop up personal bonus zones.. It's not until I'm actually out of DC that I see the surge map.. I literally have no idea what and where Lyft is surging while in DC..

This happens regardless if the app is on and accepting rides, or off..

Is this by design?

I was only able to see the below surge areas in DC after I was in Rockville where it wasn't surging of course.. And I'm always able to see the DC surge map while I'm out in Sterling. The only thing I get are the ridiculous bonus zone pop ups which is seldom at that. The highest I've gotten was $4.78. if I stayed in the pink. Meanwhile I know that the entire city was surging.. Turned off the app and turned on Uber and made a killing last night.

On either one, Fubar or Gryft, you get extra only when and where it says that you do. Both will put different colors on the map to indicate where supposedly there is "high demand" or, even to trick you into thinking that there is a surge/Prime Time, but, unless it tells you that you are getting something extra, you are getting only the 1979 cab rates that either of them pays.

Lyft new surge is crazy and make no sense, it pops up out of nowhere, no demanding zone and give no ride. In rush hour DC, it gives freaking couple bucks surge or none. Just one example 20190519_084210.png

I got my first Pink Zone at the metro. Dude was only needing to get 3.75 away off the metro and stayed in the pink for about 10 minutes until I got a ping. Added 7 extra bucks to the ride which made was like a nice tip on top of the ride. I usually don't mind the 3.75 metro rides any ways since they let me run right back and decide whether to go for a longer trip or shuffle.

If Lyft regularly pink zones at the metro I'll definitely keep my Lyft app on at the metro.

Stay in the pink zone

Pink zone is half fake, imho
Basically they are giving away free $$$, but seeing if you will fall for it in the future.

In the system they will know, driver stayed extra minutes for extra $$$...

Enjoy it while it lasts. That bonus is going to get smaller and smaller.
iPhone 6s (latest iOS, too) user with 469 rides total; have not seen the heat maps at all the entirety of May, and only see the "bars" symbol for particular hot spots (such as lower Logan Circle at night) as well as the random Personal Power Zone.

Only ever saw a Prime Time notification pre-pickup once, but that disappeared as the bloke I was picking up from Red Hen in Bloomingdale wouldn't cross the intersection (a ridiculous Suburban was blocking the only free space next to the restaurant) and some idiots who walked up to my vehicle, without checking the make let alone the licence plate, wasted my time asking me for their names. Original bloke probably got auto-shuffled
I've gotten 2 of these last week.
I got a couple of 25% PT like that. I noticed it was after I let a shitload of pings expire
I've never gotten percentages since they went to the personal power zone scam.
I am starting to notice a pattern with the PPZ's. The ones i have gotten were when i'm in a slow area, and i am restaging to go to a better area. No fake primetime anywhere nearby. I think one of the factors that trigger it, is a pax is half way through creating a trip. Lyfts way of stopping a driver who is about to leave the area. Any one else notice this?

Fake primetime for me is a signal to turn off lyft, and do only uber.

Yep
Lyft is now hiding the urine spots on the map with this shit

I wonder if that's just related to using Android or not.
I am still seeing the piss on my iPhone
