Probably a technical glitch. I had it happen to me right on the Westchester/CT border in Uber a couple of years ago

That has to be a glitch. TLC would pull their Base Permit in a second.

I believe Lyft can give you pings from places you can drive, even if you're presently located in a place where you can't, so it's possible the pings came from NJ.
