I'm assuming it was a personal dispute. Must have beef with each other. Police say they dont think it was random. Lyft driver must be relieved he wasnt involved & possibly get shot also.
They said it was black SUV following them...maybe it was a pissed-off Uber Black/SUV driver who didnt get a cash tip from victim on a earlier ride. Uber really needs to put that tip option in the app already!

Look where the pick up was. Eliminate the risk by not picking up in areas with known high crime rates. Be smarter then the ping. I won't go to LA and accept pings in Compton or South Central.

If they live there they should know better than to pick people up there. I don't pick people up in my neighborhood.

This kind of thing can happen anywhere, in churches, in schools, in supermarkets, and on and on. It also happens in Scottsdale as well as Phoenix, Mesa, Laveen, etcetera. As for me, I play the odds one rider at a time. I follow my gut feeling at that moment and do not hesitate to cancel the ride no matter who gets upset.

Yes, bad things can happen anywhere, but people get shot in Maryvale more often than people get shot in Paradise Valley.
Have you ever had a gun pointed at you? Ever been shot at? I have. Not fun. None of those incidents happened in good areas.
Minimize your risk and stay alive.

The news showed 4 bullet holes in the lyft car. I think lyft has a $2500 deductible. Add all the blood in the back seat as another expense. This lyft driver lost his ass. These cab dangers are real and the risks are not worth the reward. I've been trying to warn people but what do I know. When cab drivers get shot all the medical bills are on them. It's the same with uber and lyft but now everyone is lining up for these crappy jobs making minimum wage at best.
