So I got a Lyft driver who told me that he does nothing but airport runs using the Lyft DF in the evenings after work so I thought I'd try it in the morning

I'm new to the Lyft SFO queue. So ...

First try, no DF. 50 drivers in the Q and I get a Line ping. Is this normal?

Since the DF message covers the Q length next I waited until 50 drivers and then set it for Los Altos Hills which is the furthest south I'm willing to go. No ping.

Removed it and it was at 25 drivers. Got 2 SF pings in a row. They kindly cancelled when I called.

So is there a rule of thumb regarding the queue length and the odds of a southbound trip versus a San Francisco trip?

And will setting it at Los altos hills disqualify me from Mountain View and Palo Alto trips?

Thanks.

I too have issues with getting back home from SFO. I start from San Jose and get a couple of rides a week from the Valley to SFO. Good money but rare to get a ride back down--most on up to SF where after my drop I drive SF which for me is short line rides, packed with 4 pax with tough pickups and stress drops. I end up bailing out to Pala Alto. I tried setting my destination to "South Bay" and never got a ride down while at UBER/Lyft lot. If I really have to get back down and can't wait I end up leaving and taking the hit on gas.

On 4 SFO add to que rides I did get back down. All were to Palo Alto.

I live in SB and head back after SFO drop off. If I dont get a request right away after drop off, i drive to Milbrea @ El Camino and set my DF to SJ DT. I almost get a few rides and sometimes all the way back to SJC.
I dont wait at SFO uber lot

I do this exact same thing though 've found to get trips towards destination in SJ I usually have to go down closer to poplar or 3rd st exit in san mateo otherwise I still have that red message on the app to leave the queue. i usually can get a pick up near san mateo downtown. mostly only to redwood city or Menlo park, rarely all the way to SJ.

Why would you do any trips of length especially on Lyft is beyond me.

It all about short trips and being subsidized with the bonus.

The rest is a waste of resources.
Oh really? Had an odd connectivity problem hence the low hours online. Perhaps you are fishing in the wrong pond.

Once you're off airport property just close down the app and reopen it works like a charm

...

I answered my own question today. DF set for Los Altos Hills got me a ride to Palo Alto, 36 bucks

Arrived SFO 4.30 pm, 80 Lyft drivers, but the queue was moving Cherry picking Uber pings was a fail

5 pm 50 drivers and I got my ping. So, I'm going to assume that the ratio of San Francisco to South Bay rides is 50 - 1.

I will do more research and Report
