Never thought I would say that but unfortunately it's true....it took me awhile to put the pieces together but now I get it.....I now know lyft has discriminatory practices......I was thinking that it was that mostly blacks use lyft....but after last night I see the light....I was in uptown at 2 am the surge was %600 but my pings kept trying to send me to the hip hop club 10 min away far from the surge area to pick up "Shaniqa".....I refused it in hopes of getting a trip in the surge area...just to get another ping for 15 min away to pick up "Lakesha"......I have no problem picking up anyone but their not going send me to a $5 dollar trip 10 miles away when I'm sitting right in front of a $40-80 trip 1 min away....wtf

I read an intriguing article some time ago. (Wish I saved the link). It was in reference to rider discrimination in part because of a rider's name. Not saying this in reference to you but you probably kept getting pinged to combat that. Others were ignoring so the pings bounced to you by default.

It's discriminatory on your part for not accepting the ping. You wanted the ping at 600% and not the one at the normal rate. I bet EVERY other driver in the area was doing the same thing. It probably had nothing to do with the perceived race of the rider. This is ultimately a case of drivers wanting to earn the PrimeTime that may or may not actually exist.

If Uber would let riders add an up-front tip, that would guarantee better service. I don't care if the account name was Satan - Prince of Darkness, if it had a +$10 on the ping, I'm taking it (but still no smoking in the car, Lucifer). That would be good for drivers and Uber. It would encourage pax to part with a couple bucks and the bottom feeders could go back to the bus.

I had that exact issue this am. I'm sitting in the middle of a huge surge and get a non-surge ping...from inside the surge area. I ignored it and went home. I'm not playing Uber's dysfunctional game anymore.

This specifically goes against Ubers mission statement. They don't want cheap folks on the bus they want the marketshare so they created pool for those folks.

As a veteran driver you should know better. The surge map always lags behind. You will get non surge pings in a surge area this is pax trying to wait out a surge plus other drivers ignoring non surge pings to get surge too. Ignore the weak pings and wait for a surge one even if that means taking a time out.

I read that same article.....white drivers wouldn't pick up people with black names. ..I fell lyft and uber combats that by sending black drivers to pick up people with black names....here one I was sent to get while I was waiting at the air port 20th in line....

The puppet master's hands are at work! Article also mentioned discrimination by foreigners through name bias and gender bias.
