Hello, I left a purse full of some very valuable items in an Uber last Saturday night in Austin. I have been back and forth with Uber support, but they won't help me because I wasn't the one who ordered the Uber. I don't even know the name of who ordered me the Uber, but I know every item in that purse and the pickup time, location and drop off. Is there any sort of lost and found? Am I just screwed? Where do these items go? It includes my license with an old address. Any chance they would mail it there? It's very important I find these things! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Sorry to hear you lost your purse. You could get a lot more help if the person you were with reported it and asked for help. If you are lucky your items might be sitting in someone's trunk that's just been too busy to contact uber that they have them. The unfortunate reality of the situation on a night like Saturday is that the driver most likely what immediately to another pick up loading other people back into the car And it's unfortunate but reality that some people Are not honest about what they find.

It's almost impossible in downtown Austin when bisy to pause between rides and check the car.

Good luck

Yeah, possible scenarios are:

1. You left it in the Uber
1a. The Uber driver found it before his next passengers did.
1a1. Your Uber driver is not a pig - s/he reported it via the usual channels - FIND THE RIDE REQUESTOR. (Very unlikely they would mail to old address)
1a2. Your Uber driver is a pig - s/he took any valuables out and dumped it in the nearest trash can - YOU'RE SCREWED.
1b. The next passengers found it first.
1b1. The next passengers are not pigs - they gave it to the driver, see 1a.
1b2. The next passengers are pigs - they took any valuables and dumped it, see 1a2.
2. You left it somewhere else, not in the Uber - GOOD LUCK.

All great and accurate advice.

First and foremost you need to find out who ordered the ride if at all possible. Is there a friend of a friend who knows the person, facebook stalking maybe also? Nailing that down would help make the rest of the process much smoother.

And if that really isn't a possibility somehow hope that Uber driver has made contact with that person and hope that Uber is able to leave a contact number for you for that person. This may be a case where you need to explain things to Uber in person if possible because I assume for liability issues they do not want to release anyone's contact info to you so maybe you can leave yours with them? I don't know enough about the legality of it, but also maybe propose to them if there is a way for you to prove that you were in that car (text messages with time stamps, phone calls, etc.) that gives them enough to release contact info to you?

Sucks. Hope things works out.
