Did some quick math, most of the trips leave driver less than $10 per hour after expenses. Take this one for example:
We are looking at 58 miles, 150 minutes most likely (app quotes 133 minutes but we all know LA traffic), for $38.
Unless you drive a Prius/EV, 58 miles for 150 minutes will likely cost 3+ gallon of gas, which is $15 if you get Costco.
$38 - $15 = $23, divided by 2.5 hours (150 minutes) = $9.2 per hour, and that did not even take vehicle maintenance and depreciation into calculation!

I think all of you are missing the point. These upfront-pricing offers are just there to fill out your time. You'll get the bi-weekly Prop 22 top-up if you dutifully service all these Uber customers.

And that's what upfront-pricing REALLY is all about. The drivers that keep driving these requests are the new cabbies, getting paid the Prop 22 rate by their employer, Uber. And not a penny more. Prop 22 pay is the ceiling.

That makes sense. The only time you really get good rates now are when the rides been turned down by closer drivers.

Saw something today. Got a trip radar for $6.xx for a twenty minute trip. I didn't click, but noticed it had five eyeballs on it. Nobody took it. So I got the ping for that trip, which I didn't take. Then I got the exact same trip radar, but this time it's $10.xx. Somebody took it.

Looks like Uber is throwing out low-ball offers hoping someone bites, then raising them if nobody does. There was no surge, just a higher offer for the same trip. All these crap pings are going to continue as long as drivers out there keep accepting them.

And yet they charge the rider more no matter what. Trip radar is how much they say up front the will screw with with.
