My wife and I were having Pizza and Beer tonight with friends we have known for over 40 years and they tell us a story about her husbands brother and sisters family.

While down in Wildwood, NJ they needed a ride to a restaurant for dinner and decided to use UBER since they planned to have drinks and did not want to designate someone as the non drinker. So the UBER driver arrives and they notice the vehicle looked a little shabby but who's to complain. Once the 4 of them entered the vehicle they noticed the drivers seat was pushed way back and leg room was tight. Then they noitced the driver had his bare foot on the steering wheel. Odd but then your at the shore. The driver asked for the destination and needed directions to the address, well once they started to move they realized he had no arms and was driving using one leg/foot to steer and use the turn signals. He used the other leg/foot for the gas and brake and to work his cellphone which was mounted on the floor. They made it without any problems but were in total shock.

They did not know if they should notify UBER.

Has anyone in that area seen this driver?

I am sure that he drives a lot better than the most of pa, nnj and some ny uber drivers who came to steal his bread. I guess he is local. And to report for what? He has a license, insurance and a car. Nobody wants dot medical for ubering yet.
If you need to report I can feed you with few lic plates who loaded more than 4, made turn on red, more and more... The police here doesn't care anymore for uber. Nobody enforce the law anymore down here.
The season is slow at all, hopefully will pick up, but I am just a step away to turn off the app.
If you feel better this guy to loose this opportunity, report it. He may not lost it, but what goes around comes around. Soon or later.

If the state of NJ says he's safe enough to drive, then... you open up a ton of problems with the ADA if you raise a stink.

I'd be more concerned with the Uber driver that my pax told me was drunk down in Wildwood.

I saw a TLC in Wildwood last night. I seriously wanted to go ask him WTF was wrong with him.

Uber is just a machine for money.
Uber has no feelings. You bring them money, you are great and they say thank you. Tomorrow no need of you regardless if you have hands or you don't have, you are out. Easy as you push go online, but nothing happens. Done! You can be the best, the safest, cdl a b c, clean record, it doesn't matter the machine said we don't need you. At the same time someone will replace you.
I can't fight then/it, but who can? The Newark mayor is down, nobody bothers LM and TLC plates in NJ, private plates still fly under the radar, but when you see 10 LM plated vehicles in the Golden mine Avalon you can pull over at least one and ask to prove the pickup location and the destination...
So who is Uber? Why they should care for that driver? If state of NJ says he can drive, so he can drive. For Uber doesn't matter. If I have been his rider I would tip and appreciate his faith to survive. If he can't drive safe is a different story, but here I didn't see anything like that. Life is not the same for everyone, I respect people like him. When something bad come to any of us, then we realize what we lost and what we had, but there is no way back.

If this story is true, I'm sure there will be some sick bastards out there who will downgrade him just because he doesn't have hands.

Yes this story is true and from what I understand he was a good driver. He may be handicapped like all handicapped people they learn to adjust.

I hope passengers appreciate the fact that at least he is working hard to earn a living for himself instead of living off taxpayer / government handouts. But you can bet some moronic pax will freak out that he doesn't have hands and "debate whether they should complain to Uber" about it, instead of thinking for a second, and realizing that he must have had a good driving record to have qualified to drive in the first place.

I'm actually kind of surprised Uber hasn't tried to hype that they have disabled drivers, but it probably goes into people being squeamish around amputees and the obvious safety question.

I did not ask because it was their sister that told me the story. I hope they did and a lot. I would have.
