Well this is relatively new:

Accepted a ping on the way home & drive 20 min. to get there. Finish the ride & just end up with a minimum fare. No long pickup supplement. If it doesn’t flash the notice that there’s a possible long pickup fee, don’t take a far away ping! Didn’t Uber used to just automatically apply these?

Yeah it was a destination filter match. I had it set to arrive in an hour for a destination a half hour away to give it some leeway to match. I did get the notice it matched my destination though. I guess it's a no go with that? I've noticed at times it won't add a surge when thats on either.

That is correct - it most likely bypassed a better driver or that driver turned it down and then you got it. Since you were already going that way, they didn't charge the passenger and you don't get the fee. So the way I look at rides like that, just enjoy the fact you got to deduct the mileage off your taxes at the end of the year and you got a little money to drive home. Most trips from Pittsburgh back to Washington, I don't get a ride at all so I eat that time.

Yeah I got a couple ‘pickup fee likely’ or whatever the exact message is this evening. If it’s an exact destination match you get a message for that instead. Which is fine if you’re driving & its on your way, you just cover some of your gas. I did pretty well last weekend gaming the long pickup fees. Accept them & take your sweet a** time getting there can result in some decent fares as compared to going where it’s busy & grinding out minimum fares. These pax are the worst thought, they’ve been trained by Uber to expect you to drive 20 minutes to them for a minimum fare & no tip. I always try to down rate anyone doing that.
