in case you don't know Uber is taking sales tax and BCF from the drivers instead of passengers as the state law says, somehow they managed to skip on state law and passed those charges to the drivers in favor of wealthy new yorkers, and that is of course with the help of TLC.
Not only that but also fare discrepency, lately drivers discovered that Uber charges customers a price and pays the drivers another, making them take more than they're allowed to on commission as per the contracts between Uber and it's LLC's and the drivers.

I am more than willing to take action and find lawyers who will bring this up in court if the drivers can raise the money to cover the expenses of doing so.

It's crazy. We pay Sales Tax on our rides and then turn around and pay tax on our income! Sounds like double dipping to me!

I am not sure it is illegal but i think a well advertised fundme campign is a good idea. Even if its not illegal, if uber is continiously hammered with suits they will get the picture.

No one has touched this issue for this long because there is nothing there or simply not enough. Uber has a huge legal team that make sure of that.
1. If a company chooses to include sales tax in the total fare it is legal - 100%
Plus NYS really dont give 2 shitz as long as theu get the money. Sales tax submitted? No questions asked.
2. What Uber charges passangers has nothing to do with driver payout. When you agree to their Driver Agreement you agree to drive for x ammount per mile per minute minus x ammount for commission.

Now until last January they never fully disclosed to drivers that the $1,75 per mile and .35 per minute was really alot less because of sales tax and bcf. Alot of these issues were covered under recent settlement when drivers sued for misleadingly advertising and false claims of income potential. There is alot that can be recovered be filling another class action lawsuit jist need to find an attorney qho is willing to take it. In these cases the attorney must take the case based on contingency amd they keep 33% of the settlement. It has to be a prettt large lawfirm with alot of resources to take on a big case like this. Another problem is that alot of drivers wouldnt even join such case in fear of being deactivated Im guessing. I can suggest some Labor and Employment Law Firms and you can always ask around do a consult worth a shot.

I am amazed as much you are, unbelievable ! A thread about 1.2X or 1.3X gets more attention than this, and this is exactly what makes these predatory corporates prey on drivers, they absolutely know that they don't care no matter what they do to them, they will just cry for a day or two and go out to chase peanuts the next day.

I think this should wait. When uber is down on its knees, when they have been bled dry, when their investors are jumping of bridges. That is the time. If this were a success now they get away anscathed

Yes, But Uber takes their commission from the sales tax and BCF. Uber's cut should only be on the pre-tax fare.

This is New York after all... you'll find a million lawyers probably willing to do this pro bono..

Just for the love of god if you do don't cheap out on the lawyer.. don't bring it to a friend or some BS or shotty lawyer who chases accidents.
