Uber has introduced another restriction.
but admits.
Whilst you can always choose to cancel any trip, keeping your cancellation rate below 25% will ensure that you are eligible for Service Fee Quest, Consecutive Trip Boosts and other incentive offers.

Does the mean.
uber admits you can cancel any trip.

I don’t get why you need to cancel trips at that high rate?

1st of all you already accepted the trip, so why cancel,
Unless you are running multiple apps,

wouldn’t you be better off not to accept in the 1st place?

Drivers with high cancellation rates don't really care about so called promotion. I think this is a positive message from Uber to them that they can cancel whatever they want.
I have a low cancellation rate and I don't care about promotions either. Promotions cost us money, the only ones benefiting are passengers.

If someone has a cancellation rate of 25%, they should be deactivated after a couple of warnings. From a pax point of view, surely they would rather be picked up by a driver with a 4.2 rating than get cancelled on by a 4.9 rated driver.

Because you need to monitor the customer and heat mapp app continuously before arrive at the accepted ping, and before arrival, if surge increases you cancel the accepted ping, makes complete sense why take 1.8 if it's gonna be 3.9 you can cancel and make what's best for the driver, your a sole trader and have every right to choose your jobs, it's not criminal .No body asked uber to make surge heat maps so inconsistent in the first place.

What! by now you still don't know that uber's app works by an algorithm. It's ensure every drivers earn the same average hourly rate regardless as what surge you got. If you have gotten a 3.9 surge uber won't give you anymore high surge trip or anymore unless it's very very busy just to lower your hourly rates. It's pointless to charge surge unless Uber take out their algorithm.

Even if that was the case, i would rather receive 1 x 3.9 ping than 2 × 1.9 pings.

I'm in Mulders camp. So many pax are at their wits end when I get to them because drivers accept and drive towards them cancelling sometimes at the last minute. Go and drive a taxi FFS!

Like they need a message from Uber to validate their practices? Nah! I think Uber is worried about the reliablity of their service but does not have the means to deactivate drivers with high cancellations rates. I am not sure any driver has been deactivated in this way.

It is the case. I've been doing it for years.

Drive to Sydney, sign into Uber somewhere near Lake George. Occasional ping in Goulburn (not likely). Sign off when approaching Sutton Forest to recharge the car, sign back on when the charge hits 80%, unplug at 90%, keep driving. So while I'm doing occasional country rides for 2 hours and genuine city rides for 6 hours, the algorithm will skew me towards better runs when I'm in the city so my average per hour gets me back to parity.

Highway pings are occasionally fun. One time I picked up some French tourists at 1am who had run the battery flat on their hire car at some scenic lookout near Robertson, and they just wanted to get back to their hotel and deal with road service (read: fess up to the hire car company) in the morning. Or some woman who got jack of her crying simp husband and decided to uber it home to Frenchs Forest soon into their weekend travels.

I'm in Canberra and I'm getting more and more passengers tell me about drivers cancelling on them.

The irony is, if they had a lower cancellation rate (<3%), they'd get to see anticipated trip duration and direction BEFORE accepting the ping as part of their Uber Pro rewards.

Same. Though less so in the last few weeks.

I explain the flight mode trick, and then show them where in settings they go to enable verify-my-ride. I'll tell them that some drivers will cancel anyway, but at least they'll cancel instantly upon seeing PIN to start, rather than 2 minutes later after they've stepped through the flight mode exploit. A few sneaky drivers in a row multiplied by two minutes apiece makes for a crappy user experience.

That only helps if you don't reject more than ~1:5 pings.
