A cop just slapped me with an obstructing-traffic ticket for dropping some people off at the corner of two streets. It wasn't my best moment, but I can't believe how rude the cop was. As I tell him that I want to pull up to somewhere safe, he tells me in a condescending voice that I might as well stay where I am since I blocked traffic. He then asked for the usual: license, registration, and insurance. I give him my license and try to find the envelope I put my registration and insurance in. I hand it to him, and he tells me to find the documents myself. I really don't get it: why are cops angry? I probably shouldn't have listened to the paxes regarding where to drop them off, but I didn't stop in the middle of the road. I accept that I should have shown better judgement, but I am still perplexed by how rude some cops can be.

Anyways, does anyone know how much I will have to pay? I got a court date, but it was not marked as being a requirement. I am hoping I can just pay a fine and be done with it.

Counts as 2 insurance points. I would either fight ticket or plea down to something else.. otherwise enjoy paying an extra 1500+ next 39 months

This has always been my fear. Getting a ticket like that while doing Uber. Paying a couple of hundred makes the rest of what you work for X amount of days pointless as it's just to break even.
True. I just got my best trip on Friday: 2.2x surge with a $137 payout for a 48-minute ride with no tolls. Since I mainly work on the weekends, any expenses outside of gas takes a big bite out of my earning.

Thank goodness I did my own research. Actually, it's just a 39:4-67 ticket. It's 0 point on my license and a small fine. It's basically a parking ticket.

It still counts against insurance and is on your abstract. If Uber re runs your DMV check they will know about it. If you get other DMV points, this no point ticket will still negatively impact you.

Curious, what town did you get this gift in?

They ask you to pull out the specific documents instead of handing them the envelope due to numerous reasons. One: It's not their job to search through your documents. Two: If they damage anything or lose anything while going through your stuff, that's a potential problem for them. Three: They never know if it's documents or an envelope full of anthrax or an exploding dye pack or whatever. They just want your documents. They're not looking for an Easter egg hunt or a wild goose chase, or anything litigious.

Keep it simple. Just give them the documents they want to see.

Probably hasn't shown up yet because you either just renewed or were near renewal. You'll see. No scare tactics I went through it for 39 months.

Last time I was pulled over I was just as polite as I can be... stupid Wayz took me down a service road for s college that didn't start as a service road and looking for the pax I missed the sign. I apologized, showed my Wayz, told her everything I was about to do and got off with a verbal warning and a seatbelt check on the pax and she actually told them to make sure they stayed buckled up because your driver doesn't need the liability

It's the manner in which he responded. The guy acted as if I ran over some people. He was very rude.

Again: Curb, curb, curb, curb. Doesn't matter if it's painted yellow or red, just get to the curb. Let this be a lesson learned. I had the same thing happen to me when I first started doing Uber, but I didn't get ticketed.

And never listen to pax for drop off. Explain you have to get to their curb for their safety and "this isn't like the movies or being in the city".
