As a rule, whenever you go into a day with the expectation of it being a great day to make moolah on Uber, so will thousands of other Uber drivers.

Uber's strategy on these days is (and must be) to position itself as a reliable transportation services provider for the public making a decision between Uber, Lyft, and their own cars. That means having a ton of cars available at all times, never more than a minute away. It does not mean Uber drivers making big bucks.
Even that 2.2x they announced for 4th of July week serves the former more than the latter. Just have a look at your app and count the ants.

I depends on where you drive. Most holiday events are short-runs. Pax park a few miles from their events, and then Uber to and from. For me, memorial day was a bust. Too many crowds, hard to find pax, and when you do find them, they're drunk and obnoxious.

I've made my 4th of July plans, and they don't include Uber........

If they are offering 2.2x incentive, it will be great. I have platinum status usually, and I do great with it, and would much rather just do 2.2x incentive vs chasing surges all day. And for those that say there are no rides, I have no idea what you are talking about, I can't even fricken pee without the pings coming in. I constantly get them before my current ride is over, to the point it becomes annoying as FK.

sooo many people heard about the crazy surges last year...they dont want those high surges..i think its going to be like Halloween..i heard all these stories about Halloween 2014 with high surges...never saw more than 2.3 on halloween 2015
That's because the odds of LA getting a tropical downpour again, for 5+ hours, on Halloween night are slim and none. That's literally the only reason 10/31/14 went into the Hall of Fame as a night that many can't forget.

Geez. Exactly how high did the surges get that night
They capped it at 5x, otherwise it would have beaten the Rose Bowl Jay Z concert when surge hit 13x.

Surge was PEGGED at 5.0x for hours and hours. Occasionally dipped down to 4x, but it would shoot right back up. It didn't stop until around 3am. Whole lotta dudes (me included) made what we make in a week that night.

Last year sucked, the week b4 and the week after. If I'm going to get burned, may as well stay home.
