How do you start an arbitration case against Uber? Had a 1.4x pickup at LAX around 11pm that took about 15 minutes to get to with traffic. As I was about 200-300 ft away from arriving, the passenger cancels. Total pain, had to spend another 15 minutes getting out of LAX, and didn't get a rematch. (at least the following ride was a good one)

Obviously I hadn't been paid a cancellation fee because YoU WeReN't mAkInG pRoGrEsS and so I wrote out an email explaining how I was stuck in traffic heading into LAX. Get a stupid canned response about how not all cancellations receive a fee... email 5 or 6 more times... same thing. Finally decide to call, explain calmly the situation and GET THE SAME RESPONSE. I asked to speak to a supervisor and he said the same thing. Wouldn't budge. Said the system showed that I wasn't making progress or some BS. Hung up after having spent over 20 minutes on the phone.

I will feel so vindicated if Uber winds up having to spend a few thousand to settle a $2.65 fee.

Just go to the Harbor and talk to a US-based person. That would be the best first step.
I shouldn't have to waste several hours of my time + driving expenses just to settle a $2.65 fee. This company behaves absolutely ridiculously.

If you went to McDonald's and said you had ordered your burger with no pickles and they put them on they're not gonna have to call up the manager, then check with the manager's supervisor, then check with corporate to see if they could give you another burger for free.

Sorry, it's late and I overlooked that it's just a cancellation fee. But if it's the principle of the thing, keep at it!

Arbitration cost a lot of money, this is not something that is worth it.

We have all lost out on cancellations fees, they used to be more friendly and hand them out like candy, they dont do that anymore. Sorry it happened to you, but you can try going down to the hub if you are even in the area, but the wasted time like you have stated is not woth it.

Honestly, it's a crap shoot. Sometimes they pop up, others they don't!

Move on. It's part of the gig. We all get them. Don't waste your time.

That happened to us at least once if u do LAX on sundays. 15 mins isnt even considered traffic on sunday at lax. But according to Uber, if its one of those nights with jam packed traffic, if its taking us more than 5 mins to get to their pick up location we r not progressing towars the rider n do not get a cancellation fee or so i was told...
U try to show them the times u were stuck in traffic on the way to pick up n got a cancellation fee but these Indians we talking to don't get it.
This was me with Lyft last sunday when it was 30+ to get to terminals...

I over heard this driver (pen) last night (select car) hey this is your Uber driver. Traffic is very very very very very bad to rideshare sign E do you still want me to pick you up??? (He did not even ask for destination)

On my way out of pen I’ve had two cancels, & new pings (Sherman oaks , San Juan Capistrano) and turned out to be a bust no show. No answer text. I think I made $5.00

Passengers are price shopping?

Don’t take a 1.4 from the pen unless you must take it to gtfo

I had this same thing happen with Lyft when I inadvertently found myself (due to random rides) at Ground Zero of the Oscars a month or so ago. My app was blowing up, but a) was taking me to a pick-up spot on a road that was closed, and b) I was in absolute stand-still gridlock due to the above. I even called the pax, twice, to inform them of the sitch and instructed them to walk the block to me where I was stuck at. No dice, they ultimately canceled, and I got the no-fee because I "was not making progress toward the pick-up location." Lyft dug their heels in (which surprised me, because they have backed me on several other occasions for a lot more money and even less of a legitimate reason). Why they chose this situation to channel their inner-Uber still has me scratching my head (it's not as if the road closures were secret...and the Academy Awards have been happening at the same time and day for 75 years!). I did the idiot thing and wasted WAY too much time fighting (for that silly little reason of principal), but finally gave up. Mostly because Lyft had always decided in my favor for other disputes.

Now...Uber...different story. Some day there will be a(nother) Class Action for all of the smarmy fuzzy-legal shit that they pull (Surge Suppression and B & S; Passenger 'Service Fees', Cancelation Fees, Uber Eats Double Pick-Ups, Quest Glitches, Hot Spot alerts that take you to private properties, red zones, or places where one might be more likely to find a dead body buried than a pick-up, and my favorite laughable one...the ad nauseum faux come-on "You are in a busy area; expect rides soon". Shall I go on?)

You're better off suing for fraud.
