Seems like way to many drivers for the quiet times during the week, but, as per the time honoured taxi model, never enough drivers ( on the road ) when it's really busy.
So, what does a smart flexible uber X driver do in the current situation?
In my case, work a main gig for the 40-50 hrs a week, and when possible, suppliment that with morning, evening & weekend UberX driving...
Best of both worlds...

11,000 on the books, but how many active ?

Like me. I have not driven for almost 6 weeks now. Or more I think. And, they haven't deactivated me either. Went online tonight for one hour from work to home. No pings. But didn't want one, just wanted to see if they deactivated me for not driving.

I remember reading an article that said out of 18000 uber partners in NYC only 3000 would be active at any one time on average.

Having an incentive for the Eastern suburbs doesn't make much sense to me. Last week I could understand. This week Monday surged hard but Tuesday the surge was confined to the Bondi area and only started after 8am. I had a look at the app this morning and it was a similar scenario.

I do find it more than a coincidence that the incentive period coincides with school holidays. Not sure if that was a responds to ensure there was no drop in drivers on the road. But if there are less people around then demand will probably drop during this time.
