NON-TIPPING customer leaves keys in your vehicle.
You or they discover this after yòu are miles away and still working.
What do you tell them to avoid deadheading back to where they are?

If the customer tipped, then I'd be much more likely to return them on my dime.

If they call say you are working and that you are away from their location and that you can drop the keys off at a uber location where they can pick them up...then see what the customer wants to do..they will make you a offer for returning their keys or you can just return them to a uber location on your own time..

I've returned phones to customers and have always been tipped. $50 Amazon card one time and cash others usually $20.

I would only give back a phone. Everything else goes in the garbage.

Pretend to look and sound sincere and say "sorry I can't find your keys anywhere." then hang up and laugh.

Do you have your tip sign up? or no sign and expect them to know to tip?

they better give you a nice tip if they want their phones back or else i'm keeping a nice present someone mysteriously left for me

They mention payment, you find keys.
No mention of payment, no find keys.
Rather simple actually.

Hasn't happened to me yet, but if they weren't a tipper or didn't offer cash for you to return something I'd just tell them I can drop it off at the local P.D. the next time I pass it (which is several times per day).
