[Uber&Grab Driver]

Was told by my full time Grab driver who used to be a taxi driver that he hear Grab is going to raise the commsions from 20 to 30% when I advice him to buy a used old car to drive grab rather then paying $2000+ for Grab car. He say scare if rumors is true after 30% commission left nothing..
Anyone hear this rumours too?

Grab's GM Lim KJ ever mentioned that openly but not sure how serious was he and I doubt they will do that at this juncture even if they have the intention to do so. Definitely not the right moment to do so now.

I agree not now but once CCCS un-tie their hands they will be free to do anything. CCCS cannot tie them forever. It is business. All are willing sellers willing buyers.

All the years I have been telling my passengers they may think they pay me a lot. But I only earn 50% of what they pay. If they pay $10, I only earn $5. Why would I go into the carpark and wait for them at their lobbies and get rated by them for this kind of earning? That's why PH is not my cup of tea.

Drivers must pray Grab will not suffer total loss in Malaysia. If not, even 50% for Singapore cannot mend the big hole in the account book in the next 10 years.

When the news of Uber's merger was made public, we should have seen certain things coming.

These are

- cut in drivers' incentives
- increase of fare.
- increase in drivers' commission.
- alterations to app model that will adversely affect drivers.

Soon after the merger, I transferred my contract for the Audi A3, downgraded to a Honda jazz at 280/wk, went back to my old line and is only driving as a PT (abt 30 trips a WK) now.

PH market has been spoilt by grab. It may be better but it will take years.

If you really want a decent living as a driver, be a taxi or bus driver. Even an ambulance driver earns more than a PH driver after you factor in the cost and Taz.
