Hi,
I have to start a part-time job and I figured it out that people are making good money by driving Uber. I am thinking to drive the Uber in between 8:00 PM to 10:30 PM and I live in Melton, so whats the scope of getting a request?
Please suggest me, is this option the best to earn extra money in above-mentioned hours or is there any another option which will be more beneficial for me?
In addition, is driving uber during "Night Hours" safe? I mean, has any incident yet recorded where the driver has been harmed by the passenger(s)?

A real gotcha that many people fail to realise if they already earn a income or salary elsewhere then the tiny little pittance profit they do receive from driving Uber could well attract between 19% - 37% in additional personal taxation. Do your research and you'll realise it's a mug's game

I have been there once a few months ago and the requests kept coming from 20km away. Is it worth driving 30km for $10 with your car? Those customers from far outer suburb are not accustomed to the norm of Uber, so they may think that you happily drive 20km to pick them up and offer water and mints for $10 trip. If you are not localised to that area, I wouldn't recommend you to pick up customers in your area, especially at night.

You will clean up big time, race down to uber and sign up quickly
Thanks buddy for your positive reply.

Will it decrease driver's rating when you decline customer's request frequently? I mean, if the driver is getting repeated requests from a far distance and he declines the request again and again, will it decrease his rating?

No. Since Saint Travisty was canonised, ratings have now been replaced by Badgers.

It just affects your confirmation rate ( acceptance / order * 100), but confirmation rate does not have any effects on anything. Normally if you ignore 3 consecutive orders, you will be force logged off, but you can login again straight away after that.

Is it safe to drive during night hours with the unknown customer(s)?
Install a dashcam with a screen. When they behave abnormally, turn the screen on and tell them that all the route is being tracked by Uber and the situation around the car is being recorded.

Work out the full long term per km ruining costs of driving your car, including maintainence and replacement costs, as the kms you'll be doing these become noticeable after a while.
The tax office assume it costs 66 cents per km to ruin a car, if you do less than 5000 km you can just claim this without paperwork, but point being when you include empty km while driving uber, going to/between jobs and that, if you go by this 66 cents per k running costs, you will find you are losing money daily, as in not making a cent. Better to get a real job.

Depends what do you want to achieve financially or do you have other source of income like full time job?
As part time if you do it smartly you can actually offset most of the car costs bit comes with price,4-5 years down the track your car won't worth much.
In Melton you would have to have at least 30-50% of dead miles, your rate will end up at 50-70c per km Gross after you take all costs am not sure you will be left with much.
You need to register for GST and pay every 3 months
Common consensus is you will end up with around $10 per hour, don't think you will achieve that.
2.5hours every night you will find yourself probobly driving empty from Melton towards city at least half way there and back.
Good luck.
